Elmwood Park is a residential community in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 20,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Elmwood Park was first established in 1881 as a small farmstead on what is now Elmwood Road. The name originated from an oak tree that stood near the park's original boundaries. In 1903, the town of Elmwood Park was organized and located within what is now Elmwood Village. The first settlers to Elmwood Park were farmers who had purchased land in 1881 from John Phipps and others who had bought land around present-day Sears Point on Lake Michigan. They built their homes between 1886 and 1890 using logs that they brought over by boat from Indiana and Wisconsin. By 1901, there were over 100 homes in Elmwood Park with a total population of about 350 people. In 1913, when Cook County was created, most of its lands were annexed by it including much of what is now Elmwood Park. As a result of this annexation, many businesses closed down and some residents lost their homes or properties during the Great Depression as well as World War II due to wartime service requirements (eastern Illinois being involved in both wars). After 1945 many residents returned to their homes while others moved out because of new development nearby such as Oak Lawn Avenue which bisected Elmwood Boulevard at that time - making it difficult for pedestrians to cross without getting lost or having to go across two streets perpendicular to one another - something which would still be an issue decades later when driving through town center areas like ELMWOOD PARK! Nevertheless, Thanks To Mayor Richard Maki’s efforts starting in 1951 & continuing until his retirement in 1974 & then through City Manager James Kapp’s administration until 1979 – [the Parks Department] did manage & maintain our beautiful parkland today! The Community has since seen numerous changes: A post-war boom followed by more suburban growth; several acts led by Mayor Emanuel following his election made updates/improvements; however no comprehensive plan ever came about due various funding cuts – until finally under current management OPD has been able to continue making Improvements throughout also working collaboratively w/ neighboring agencies

Elmwood Park is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,847 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The Village of Elmwood Park was incorporated on December 12, 1892. The first settler in what is now Elmwood Park was John Hargrave who moved from London, England in 1848 and arrived on October 30th, 1849. He and his family set up a farmstead on land that would later become known as Elmwood Park. On January 1st, 1903 the village adopted a new charter which granted voting rights to all citizens over the age of 21 regardless of race or ethnicity. On July 4th 1907 the name of Elmwood Park was changed to "Elmwood Township" and incorporation as an township followed on August 3rd 1908. In 1912 residents voted to change their name back to "Elmwood Park". In 1916 voters approved annexation by Cicero Township which placed Elmwood into separate schoolDistrict No 8 (now Cicero-Northwest Side School District). Taxes were raised for this purpose and on November 3rd 1916 the village became one block large with two stores/a post office/a church (St Bartholomew's Episcopal Church) and 15 homes/the first public housing project in Cook County when it was built by real estate developer Wirtz & Snively across from Soldier Field between 1917-1918 It had been planned that 500 units be constructed but only 350 were actually built due largely to World War I disruptions which caused many factories closed down including Wirtz's own company plant where he wanted his new housing developments to be located In 1924 voters approved annexation by EngleWOODS SCHOOL DISTRICT No 14 making Elmwood into its own educational entity which lasted until 1959 when it merged with Oak Lawn Lincolnshire Township schools DSD #1
