Elmwood Park is a village located in Knox County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. Elmwood Park is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first settler in what would become Elmwood Park was John Pemberton in 1836. He and his family built a cabin on the east side of the current village site. A post office was established in 1841, and by 1865 there were twelve settlers living in Elmwood Park. The first school was organized in 1868, and by 1870 there were six students attending school. A railroad line arrived at Elmwood Park in 1886, and by 1890 there were nine residents living hereabouts. A water tower became operational in 1896, and soon thereafter electric lights began to be supplied to the townspeople. In 1899 a church was erected on Main Street; it remained active until 1921 when it burned down. In 1907 an addition to the existing First National Bank building (now known as the Pemberton House)was constructed on South Main Street for $5,000 cash from local businessmen Jerald Murchison and Lucius Beebe Sr.. At that time Elmwood Park had a total population of just over 100 people! During World War II many businesses closed their doors due to wartime production quotas; however all but one reopened after hostilities ended thanks to government assistance grants given out specifically for this purpose! In 1951 two new homes were added onto the north side of South Main Street – these are now known as “The Horseshoes” property & remain vacant today! In 1964 another addition - this time to the south side - was made available for purchase by Village trustees for $30,000 cash from local businessman Edward Latham Sr.; it remains today as “Mrs. Latham”s property! By 1988 Elmwood Park had reached its present size with 1,500 residents!

Elmwood Park is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The village was founded in 1892 by John Dolan and his wife Eliza Bacon Dolan as a small farming community on the banks of the Chicago River. It grew quickly, becoming one of the most populous villages in Cook County. In 1912, it became a town when it annexed parts of neighboring Arlington Heights. In 1936, Elmwood Park merged with neighbouring Westchester to form what is now known as North Side Community District No. 2 (NSCD2). During World War II, Elmwood Park served as an assembly point for soldiers coming off duty in the city of Chicago. After the war ended, many refugees from Europe settled in Elmwood Park and other areas near South Shore Drive and Wacker Drive during the post-war period. The park was also home to several companies that manufactured military equipment including Colt Arms Company and Browning Arms company; these companies left after prohibition repealed following World War II. In recent years, Elmwood Park has seen a resurgence in its economy due to new development along its main streets: State Street and Milwaukee Avenue have been turned into high-end retail corridors while Winthrop Road has been become a popular nightlife district filled with bars and clubs catering to both locals and tourists alike. Additionally, Elmwood Park has experienced growth within its housing market as more people move into downtownChicago for employment or pleasure reasons rather than residing within walking distance of any grocery store or shopping center available on their doorstep
