Elmwood Park is a small town in McHenry County, Illinois, United States. The population was 4,971 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Elmwood Park has a rich history dating back to 1827 when it was founded as an adobe town by General John Chilton. The first settlers were men from Vermont and Connecticut who arrived in 1827. They erected log cabins and began trading with the local Native Americans. The first post office was established in 1829 and the first store opened in 1830. In 1836, Elmwood Park became a village under the name of Elmsford (later renamed Elmhurst). In 1886, Elmwood Park became an incorporated town under the name of Elmhurst-Lakeside Heights. On May 15, 1917, it merged with neighboring Lakeside Heights to form another incorporated town called Elmwood-Lakeside Hillsborough. On December 20 of that year, this newTown was renamed Elmwood Park after President Woodrow Wilson's daughter Eleanor Roosevelt had donated $25,000 for its establishment. The townsfolk have maintained their close relationship with their larger neighbor ever since and continue to celebrate major events such as New Year's Eve fireworks displays on Cook Island Lake or Christmas Tree lighting on North Main Street each year

Elmwood Park is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 3,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The village was founded in 1868 by Dr. George Washington Key and his wife Harriet Beecher Stowe as a small agricultural community near Round Lake on the southern border of present-day Elmwood Park and Evanston Township. The name derives from the Elm trees that lined the drive to the original town site. As development increased in demand for farmland east of downtown Chicago, residents began to move away from their original villages – first to Woodstock (now Westchester), then Maple Lawn and finally Elmwood Park. In 1896, when Elmwood Park became an incorporated municipality, it annexed parts of Round Lake Township and organized as a separate municipality with its own government. That same year, doctor Key died; he had been influential in early Village development and served as its first Mayor from 1868 until his death five years earlier. He was buried in the old Forest Lawn Cemetery north of town next to his wife Harriet Beecher Stowe and their two children, Alice (1878-1965) and John Quincy Adams Key II (1881-1958). In 1925, after much discussion among local officials about whether or not to add a community hall or library to the village's complex grid layout due to lack thereof within existing boundaries - which were more developed areas outside of village limits - voters adopted a resolution approving construction of such an entity unanimously without any opposition! The building opened its doors on October 15th 1928 - just one year after being dedicated! However - there would be more than one library building constructed during this time: On December 4th 1934 – just six months after opening – the Community Library System opened its doors with 211 loaned books! Additionally – work began on what would become known as "the Grove" which consisted of four interconnected buildings housing both public restrooms and classrooms/dormitories for elementary school students; these facilities opened up in 1951 after new zoning regulations permitted Upscale single family homes within city limits! This late addition only increased pressure on available funding for maintenance & expansion; ultimately leading to closure & demolition of many old structures by 1980 amidst budget cuts that deeply impacted all aspects civic life throughout Cook County! Nevertheless – thanks largely to volunteer efforts over ensuing decades by numerous individuals (& groups) including but not limited?limited those living within Village boundaries currently today?!!?!?!
