Elmwood Park is a large, beautiful town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. It is located in the northwest corner of the county and shares borders with Chicago to the east and Westchester County, New York, to the north. The population was 61,592 at the 2010 census. Elmwood Park was incorporated on October 1st 1892. The name "Elmwood" comes from a grove of trees that once graced this area. The first settlers in what is now Elmwood Park were refugees from Hurricane Andrew which devastated much of South Florida in 1992. Many of these refugees had fledFLorida after experiencing various levels of racism and violence during their stay there Countrywide. When they arrived in Illinois they were catered for by local farmers who had helped them during their time away from home-now many of these farmers continue to provide food for Elmwood Park residents today as part of their farm businesses. One such farmer who has continued to support Elmwood Park community members is Willis Cate Sr., who has been farming his land here since 1903! Willis’ family has made a significant contribution to both the town and its citizens over the years; he donated land for civic buildings and playgrounds as well as making countless donations towards music programs and other causes important to Elmwood Park residents! Willis Cate Sr.#8226 will celebrate his 95th birthday on September 17th! In honor of his long tenure with our community we are proud to present him with a gift certificate good for free admission into any one of our five municipal parks!!

Elmwood Park is a small community in Cook County, Illinois. It was founded by the Rev. George Washington Dunham in 1881 and became a suburb of Chicago. The population was 10,000 at its peak in 1920. Elmwood Park is now a census-designated place (CDP) with a population of 9,700 as of 2010. The first settlers to Elmwood Park were Methodist missionaries who arrived from Ohio in 1851. They began construction on what would become the community's first schoolhouse in 1852, and by 1861 it had also been renamed Elmwood after one of their own families. The town's growth continued apace during the Civil War; by 1865 it had attained a population of 5,000 residents and was home to two industries: cotton gin production and baking powder production for Chicago's military Arsenal munitions plants. In 1916, Elmwood Park absorbed part of neighboring Hyde PARK, making it the largest CDP south of downtownChicago when it did so. However, despite its burgeoning development and establishment as an important agricultural center during this time period - where farmers produced cornmeal feed for local mills as well as hay or straw for livestock - Elmwood Park struggled economically during World War I due to dwindling agricultural acreage and increased manufacturing activity within city limits which took precedence over agriculture overall throughout that conflict era . In 1923, however, things started to change when Mayor John Hynes developed plans for what would eventually become known as "The City Years". At that time - following years of consolidation across Cook County - Elmwood Park would come under the jurisdiction of what would be known as "The City Limits" district covering all but east-central Chicago including Cicero Heights/Edgewater Beach on Lake Michigan (then just called Whitefish Bay). This new division reflected javelin Thrower's admonition that municipalities should be self-sufficient if they were going to remain viable entities within their respective jurisdictions: while Cook County remained highly centralized through government structure at this point (and indeed many villages within Cook County followed suit), The City Limits district allowed smaller towns like Elmwood Park to grow while still maintaining some degree of jurisdictional control over their day-to-day operations via elected officials rather than through county commissioners who were more often focused on servicing larger metropolitan areas outside the boundaries defined by their districts . This arrangement lasted until 1973 when The City Limits district was abolished altogether following recommendations made by then Mayor Richard Mieszkowski in light of newly diagnosed cancer which led him into early retirement; his successor John Daley quickly scrapped Mieszkowski's recommendations and instead established wards which provided more direct representation to residents within their respective communities . Under Daley's leadership, much growth occurred within both the town itself ( resultant annexation into additional adjacent municipalities ), but also elsewherewithinCookCounty resulting in significant increases not only in Elmwoods population size but also job opportunities thanks largely to advances technology which had recently emerged across many industries .
