Elmhurst, Illinois is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 25,769 at the 2010 census. Elmhurst is located on the Chicago River. The first settlers in what is now Elmhurst were prospectors and farmers who arrived during the 1800s. In 1875, John A. Dowling founded Dowling & Company which became one of the leading telescope manufacturers in the world. In 1916, Edwin Hubble launched his first telescope from Elmdur Field Station on Long Island City property and this event helped establish space exploration as an important field of research for astronomers. The following year saw the establishment of Brown University's Department of Astronomy which soon became one of America's top astronomy programs. In 1954, Elmhurst's mayor established a park named after him in memory of his long record as an advocate for public education and infrastructure improvements in Elmhurst-Northwest Side communities across Chicagoland. In recent years, Elmhurst has seen significant redevelopment with several new businesses and residences opening up along Roosevelt Road near its downtown district while other areas have seen renewed interest including portions of Southwest Side that are home to several large corporations such as Intel and Motorola Mobility

The community was founded in 1852 as a small hamlet on the west side of Elmhurst Lake and named after one of its founders, Ebenezer Elmhurst. In 1856, the community became an incorporated town and was re-named Elmhurst after John C. Fremont, governor of California during that time. In 1932, when Cook County was created from part of DuPage County, occupying all but the southern tip ofCook County—including much of what is now Elmhurst—Elmhurst became its capital city. The current City Hall building opened in 1934 and has served as the home to both the Mayoralty and City Council since then. The city's economy relies heavily on agriculture with a total agricultural production exceeding 50% of GDP in 2009; however industry also contributes significantly to local economies through employment within several sectors including engineering, information technology, manufacturing and retail services

In 1825, he published his book - A New Discovery on Celestial Bodies - which detailed his observations with his new microscope! During World War II, many German scientists were captured by Allied forces and taken prisoner; some were used as slave laborers on American munitions factories! One such scientist was Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche who was Force-fed food while imprisoned at Buchenwald concentration camp! After becoming free, he wrote about his experience in a book entitled: “The Gay Science”!

Elmhurst and his wife Anna. It was named after Elmhurst, New York City's famous shopping district. In 1870 the village had a population of only seventy-one people; however, it grew rapidly during the 1870s and 1880s as new settlers arrived from New England and other parts of the United States. In 1892 the Village of Elmhurst merged with neighboring Addison to form Addison-Elmhurst Township (later Elmhurst Township). The merger resulted in a doubling of the size of the municipality; but because there were already two municipalities with that name in Cook County, no change occurred to their respective boundaries. In 1922 Elmhurst became an official city within Chicago proper; however, it remained under its own government until 1978 when it joined with other struggling suburbs withinChicago to form the Metropolitan State College District (MSCD). At this time it also lost its status as aVillage and became one of several wards within CDChi
