Elmhurst is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 8,563 at the 2010 census. Elmhurst is located in the Elmhurst–Aurora district of the Chicago metropolitan area and is part of the Chicago– suburbs. The community was founded on April 6, 1892 by men from Aurora, Illinois and Grayslake Township in Cook County as a small farming village named "Oak Park". The name change came about because Oak Park lacked an elementary school and children who wanted to get into good schools had to go far away like Cicero or Skokie. On July 1, 1907, Elmhurst's charter was accepted by the state of Illinois and it became its own municipality with a population of 736. In 1920s Elmhurst annexed parts of Grayslake Township including Cedar Woods which lies today within Elkhurst's limits. In 1922 Elmhurst-Aurora School District No. 1 organized with nine schools under one roof and began providing educational opportunities for all students across five wards: Dearborn Heights (northwest corner), Hawthorne (east side), Irvington (southwest corner), WinnetKA (central area), Arlington Heights (northern edge) and Elmhurst-Aurora themselves which included both public schools and private academies/universities such as Northwestern University for boys and DePaul University for girls; these days each ward has twoElementary Schools while Archertown provides only one Comprehensive High School that serves grades 9 through 12 It wasn't until 1956 when Community Education Services Corporation opened its first school building that all residents were able to attend together since their individual homes did not have room for all twenty kids inside at once. In 1961 Wards 3-5 merged into Archertown while wards 6 & 7 remained separate but united under one name - Elkwood Manor This gave rise to rumors that Parkside Elementary School could be seen as having been "acquired" by Elkwood Manor which never happened but rather this new school complex housed Elkhart High School until 1984 when it too merged into Archertown . With over 900 years combined history lesson behind us now what do we make of all those buildings? Robert Aitkenroege chairman emeritus of the City Council tells us “It’s really hard to say” But given how much our community has changed over time I think we can safely say that most likely nothing ever went wrong in those buildings! There are currently plans underway to demolish many if not all of these structures so there may well be some remnants left standing after 100 years – something I am very excited about!

Elmhurst is a small town located in Cook County, Illinois. The population was 1,865 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first residents of this area were Native Americans who lived there for centuries before European settlers arrived in the early 1800s. In 1810, John Pritzker purchased 6 acres of land around what is now Elmhurst from the Sauk people and set about building his own home and mill on it. By 1835, Pritzker had built a large brick home which he named "Pritzker House" after himself and his son John Pritzker Jr., who also became an entrepreneur in the area. In 1836, George Stephenson built a steam locomotive called "Elmhurst" at the site of today's Elmhurst High School on State Street. The locomotive was used to haul coal from mines near downtown Chicago to the factories and farmhouses along Lawndale Avenue where it was turned into railroads miles away. Elmhurst started to grow as a result of these new transportation opportunities and soon there were stores, churches, schools and other businesses dotting Lawndale Avenue between Elmhurst Road (now Roosevelt Road) and Maple Grove Road (now North Ave). One such business owner was Nathan Hale who founded Hale's grocery store in 1851 while living on Lawndale Avenue with his brother Isaac Hale. After years of growth, Hale sold his store in 1888 to Julius Rosenwald who renamed it Sears & Roebuck Department Stores Incorporated later that year after two brothers their father had imported from Europe - Edward Sears Sr., president of Sears Holding Company (later Sears Holdings Corporation), and Sam Woolley, vice president general manager at Wabash Railroad Company (later Conrail). In 1911-12 when Prohibition was repealed in America following Ulysses S Grant's successful campaign against alcohol prohibition - many farmers across Illinois began producing hemp instead of using Alcoholic beverages as their primary source of income because Hemp production did not face any federal criminal penalties like wine or beer production. This led to Elmhurst becoming one of the most important hemp growing towns in America due to its proximity to various hemp fields as well as its lack of restrictions on produce production inside or outside city limits during this time period unlike other towns like West Dundee which were struggling economically during this time period due to prohibition enforcement by local law enforcement agencies. 2 million pounds worth processed Hemp products were produced by American farmers throughout 1916-1917
Elmhurst was founded by the Elmhurst Methodist Episcopal Church in 1868. The town was named for General John F. Kennedy, who served as a mayor of Boston from 1909 to 1913.
