Today, Standard Ammo is headquartered in Springfield, Missouri while Henschel & Sons Ammunition is headquartered in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. The history of rifle ammunition can be traced back to at least 1851 when swaged metal rounds were first used for target shooting at a local fairgrounds. Rifle rounds were originally designed for use with smoothbore cannons but soon found their way into handguns as well. By 1860, rifle rounds had become well-nigh obsolete due to advances in artillery technology however they continued to be used by law enforcement agencies for target shooting until 1903 when they were finally phased out due to potential danger from ricochet off furniture or other objects inside rangeboxes (range tents). During World War I there was an increase demand for rifles because of changes in warfare which led to a need for much more powerful round than what could be produced using traditional methods such as cast lead or steel balls alone. At present day ARI manufactures both military rifles and pistols utilizing various types and caliber options including 5mm Creedmoor NATO (.308 Winchester), 7mm Remington Magnum (.338 Lapua), .50 BMG etc... In 1915, Elmhurst Catholic high school opened in Elk Grove; it remains one of the largest private schools in Illinois today and has since graduated over 100% of its students who have pursued education at college or university level. Elk Grove is a city in the U.S. state of Illinois, located on the banks of the Chicago River. The population was 20,397 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago Metropolitan Area and is one of Chicagos five original townships. The first settlers in what would become Elk Grove were a group of men from Vermont who arrived in 1824ados land that was then part of Nauvoo, Illinois. In 1827, they founded what would be known as "Elk Grove Vale" on a tract given to them by David Ogden Stewart, 1st Baron Ogden. The town's name derived from the grove of trees near the site where it was founded. In 1839, residents voted to incorporate as a city and took up arms against their captain general, Nathan Bedford Forrest (1806-1863), who had tried to evict them from their land two years earlier. In 1840-41, Forrest attacked and burned down most of Elk Grove while its citizens fought back with pistols and cannonballs; he was eventually captured and executed at Joliet County Jail by order of General James Pemberton after being acquitted by an Illinois court martial for his role in this attack. The city's first mayor was John Davenport (1798-1877). Other early mayors include Daniel Burnham (1902-1908), Arthur Ashe (1920-1925), James Buchanan Polk (1849-1853), Franklin D Roosevelt (1929-1945)and Rahm Emanuel (1983-2011). dr John Aiken became Mayor when he won election on Nov 3rd 2009
