Elk Grove is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 58,683 at the 2010 census. Elk Grove is located on the southern border of Chicago and is bordered by Aurora to the east, Downers Grove to the north, LaGrange to the west, and Streamwood to the south. The first Europeans to visit Elk Grove were French traders who set up trading posts along what is now State Road 7 in 1795. The first formally organized village in this area was Doniphan Township on April 10, 1837. It was part of DuPage County and had a total population of 2,569. On January 1, 1847 it became a separate municipality with a population of 12,951; it remained so until March 3rd when it merged with Aurora Township due to its proximity to Chicago. On November 5th 1860 Illinois General Assembly granted township status (later named Park Ridge) to Doniphan Township which included most of present-day Elk Grove as well as parts of LaGrange and Streamwood Townships within what are now those townships. This gave rise to one potential confusion – over time different portions of Elk Grove were given different levels of township status: for example Park Ridge got township status but never had any residents appointed as trustees like other municipalities did; meanwhile LaGrange and Streamwood both received township status but no residents ever lived there because they were annexed into Aurora Township later on. In 1916 Elmira Road was extended from downtown Chicago all the way through Elmira into parkland near where today's Elmira Rd meets I-294/I-290 W; this made much more room for expansion within Park Ridge so that by 1936 there were over 100 homes built in that section alone…. By 1945 only about 25%ofelkgrove's current land area remained undeveloped….. In 1964–1965 an effort began by then Mayor Richard Jannucci (D) chaired by then Village President Harry Liggio (R), funded by state Senator Dick Sears (D), Forest Preserve District #1 Director emeritus James Haughton (D), and philanthropist John Giannini (P) called for development around Eisenhower Reservoir & Eastern Blvd which would have served as a new center for shopping & dining etc., eventually resulting in construction beginning in 1966 of Eisenhower Ravine housing project across from East Side High School

Elk Grove, Illinois is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. Elk Grove was founded in 1867 and has been growing since then. The town is located on the banks of the Rock River. The population was 21,086 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The town was named after a grove of elks that were located thereabouts. In 1867, John Stephenson opened his sawmill in what is now Elmhurst Avenue and became one of the early settlers in Elk Grove. By 1870, he had erected a schoolhouse and some other buildings in what are now Elmwood Park and Wellesley streets. He also established a blacksmith shop on South First Street near Presentation Road. Elk Grove's growth continued through the years until it attained its current size with the arrival of automobiles in 1905. That year, John Aiken organized what became known as "The Old Mill Boys," who built a log cabin on present day State Street about a mile east of town center to serve as their quarters while they awaited their new carriages and wagons from Carriage Works & Mfg Co.. The first store building constructed in Elk Grove was called "Aiken's Drug Store" and functioned as that community’s first post office from 1911-1913 before being replaced by an old school house which served as library for many years until it burned down in 1985; this event also marked when Apple Valley Drive entered into existence between Elmhurst Avenue to its south and present day Wabash Avenue to its north - thereafter becoming known simply as Apple Valley Drive between those two avenues (see map below). In 1916-1917 ElksGrOw At Home participated successfully with others throughout Cook County Interurban Railway District #2 Realty covenants ratifying agreement dated October 3rd 1916 setting forth collective rights qualifications for purchase or occupancy by individuals thereof necessary for operation thereof including right to use all highways within limits assigned thereto including expressway service both ways running through said district thenceforth known as "The Great Northern Highway"
Elk Grove is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,611 at the 2010 census. It was first settled by the Illinois Central Railroad in 1847. The village served as the site of a smallpox vaccination camp during World War I and as a training ground for military officers during World War II. In 1959, Elk Grove became an incorporated town.
