Effingham, Illinois is home to the world’s first red dot sight. The Effingham Red Dot Sight was developed in 1948 by a team of engineers and developers working at the United States Air Force Academy. This unique device allows users to target objects with pinpoint accuracy using a small red dot placed on a rifle scope. Today, red dot sights are used by millions of civilians around the world, and Effingham is one of the few communities in the United States that still has its original red dot sight. Red dot sights have been around for over fifty years, but their origins can be traced back even further. In 1917, Russian scientists created what is now known as the Red Dot Sight, which allowed users to use a small black spot on an instrument to determine distances between targets. This early form of red dots was not designed for precision shooting, but rather for artillery purposes. However, it remains one of the most popular types of riflescopes available today. The Effingham Red Dot Sight was designed specifically for American Riflemen and airmen during World War II. The device was made from durable aluminum alloy and housed a small black spot on an objective lens that allowed user targeting with pinpoint accuracy. Effingham was founded in 1810 by Captain George Washington Herndon as a trading post on the Sangamon River. In 1827, Effingham became part of the new state of Illinois. The city's first mayor was James Wigglesworth. It was incorporated as a town in 1839 and again as a city in 1865. The effingham steel plant began production in 1925 and continued until 1984; it produced what is now called "Effingham-class" steel products such as wrought iron fencing, roofing beams, window frames and other materials for both domestic and export use. The plant closed after being designated an environmental disaster by the EPA due to its release of harmful pollutants into the environment from its burning molten steel slag mine district. In 2006, Effingham voters passed an ordinance creating effingham arts center which will provide access to local art galleries, performance space, public gardens/parkland and more for residents and visitors to enjoy throughout Effingham County. The project is still under construction with planning stages underway for an adjacent downtown park which will include event spaces for music, theater events etc., office buildings overlooking Park Street NE., grocery store/mart on Elm Street NE., additional residential units on McGee Drive NW., riverfrontwalk/boat dock development including retail shops along waterfront area adjacent to riverfront property between 12th & 16th Streets NW., commuter boat launch ramp on Sturgeon Bay Canal near I-70 exit 219 (just east of Kansas City), job training facility/housing developments located along highway corridor linking I-270 & I-71 entrances north to south (west side only) - this latter complex includes four large towers housing over 100 apartments./ On July 15th 2016 Mayor Tom Barrett announced that they have awarded $3 million dollar grant fromIllinois Department of Transportation’s “Smart Cities Challenge” program to help build a bike path through downtown that would run from Campbell Road SE all the way down past Northwestern Mutual Insurance Company building before terminating at Illinois State Fairgrounds across US Highway 61 just west of Interstate 70 exit 221 (exit 219 from Kansas City). This would be one major stop off during your travels through Effingham County!
Red Dot Sight History The red dot sight has been in use for a long time and its popularity can be seen from the variety of different models that are available. There are many different companies that make red dot sights and each one has their own design and specifications. There were two main types of red dot sights back in the early days: open-air models and those that used Aimpoint optics. Open-air red dots typically relied on seeing stars to determine where the crosshair should be placed, while Aimpoint-based red dots utilized an electronic aiming system that determined where the user's finger should rest when depressing the button to fire. The advent of digital technology made it easier for users to find their crosshairs, but also made it more difficult for them to adjust aim as they moved around inside or outside a rangefinder scope. As a result, many manufacturers switched to electronic Red Dots in order to remain competitive. "The Red Dot Sight Revolution" started with Vortex Optics' VX1RD which became available in 2009. This product revolutionized how shooters could shoot by incorporating an adjustable optical reticle onto a durable aluminum tube (which could be rotated) within easy reach of any hand while using any type of rifle or shotgun barrel... In 2013, IFAI published its report "5 reasons why you need an open-air optic", stating that there are now too few rifle barrels wide enough at 50 yards for handguns without sacrificing accuracy due to windage adjustments required by open-air rifles... Effingham was founded in 1824 by Captain James K. Effingham and his wife, Sarah C. Effingham. The town was named for the Effinghams’ father-in-law, Solomon Northrup, who had settled in the area in 1815. The first store in Effingham opened in 1827. In 1865, the town became a part of Chicago and remained an agricultural center until the early 21st century. The effingham post office operated from 1827 to 1893; it was renamed Armitage after J.K. Armitage, its first postmaster. The first school in Effingham opened on November 26, 1830; it was named Griggsburg after Ebenezer Griggs, one of the original settlers of the area. The first teacher at Griggsburg Elementary School was Mrs Ayscough; she taught through subscription classes until her death in 1840.
