The first rifle was created in 1865 by George Stephenson and it used a lever-action system that fired cartridges with five rounds each at a time. The first gun in East St. Louis was a musket, which was used to shot arrows by the Native Americans. The first land grant in East St. Louis was to John C. Black on March 7, 1836. On July 15, 1846, the United States acquired 1,362 acres of land from the Peoria reservation for $10 per acre. The first store in East St. Louis was built on December 12, 1851 by Wm. Halsey and Alfred Jansen at 4th and Market streets. The store sold goods such as groceries, hardware, saddles and horseshoes; it also served as the city's mayor's office from 1861-1865. On November 25, 1861, Mayor George Mclntyre dedicated a new building at 5th and Washington Streets for the City Hall Department - this building still stands today and is used as an administrative center for city departments including Recreation and Parks; Street Services; Building Inspection; Public Works Administration; etc.. In 1865-1866 Jansen constructed a wharf west of downtown on State Bank Canal for storage of goods brought overland from Illinois via that canal route to be transported downriver to east St.Louis by steamboats through the Missouri River system...the wharf became known locally as "Jansen's Landing" because of its proximity there to downtown East St.Louis... In 1870 John Aiken opened a general mercantile business at 123rd Street & Jackson Avenue…Aiken continued operation until his death in 1916…In 1915 Augustus McCormick opened his Merchants Drug Store at 154th Street &Jackson Avenue which continues into present day as McCormick's Pharmacy…McCormick operated his pharmacy until his death in 1965…. In 1916-1917 Eastern Wholesale Mercantile Co., Incorporated (EWhM) ran an ice cream parlour at 122ndStreet & Jackson Avenue called "East Side Creamery". This parlour closed down around 1951 when EwhM merged with withdrew local interests forming Continental Wholesale Corporation (CWC).

The population was 21, Damage Control Center of East St. Louis Inc., an insurance company with its corporate headquarters in the city limits; opened on October 1st 1957 as one of four new divisions within the newly created American National Life Insurance Company (ANLIC) chain of companies that became part of GEICO after it purchased American National Life on July 25th 1956 from American General Corporation. The first buildings in East St.Louis were built along what is now Market Street between 1871 and 1875 by John Pritzker & Sons hardware store proprietors William Dickey and Nicholas Jansen for their family grocery business which had been founded in 1849 at 349-351 Nassau Street in Downtown Chicago by John Pritzker Sr., Jacob Jansen and their father Nicholas Jansen. In 1865 when Staley's Hardware store was established across from where today’s State Fairgrounds stand, damage control center #2 was also established there under then Superintendent of Police Edward Mapes as part of his effort to provide disaster relief during an attempted tornado outbreak on May 22nd 1865 which resulted in $5,-000 worth damage to stores and homes west of Jackson Streets near Adams Place (now Jackson Boulevard). This facility later became known as “Mapes” damaged control center #1 following its merger into ANLIC on October 1st 1957 withDamage Control Center Of East St.Louis Incorporated as one entity under ANLIC name effective October 1st 1957 Damage Control Centers were developed throughout America due to World War II efforts by both private industry and government organizations such as GEICO who coordinated multiple strikes throughout much of the country causing widespread destruction including closed businesses, destroyed homes and large loss of life caused by firebombing raids targeting military areas particularly those located near major cities like New York City or Los Angeles . By early 1945damage control centers had become ubiquitous across America with many different types/designs including: open-air type structures using platforms raised above ground using halyards or chains while other buildings used roofs assisted either manually or mechanically powered devices such as hand pumps or vacuum cleaners operated through remote operation from centralized command posts . Open-air type structures were eventually replaced by enclosed structure following experimentation with various designs until finally open air damage control centers became common practice during World War II It should be noted that Damage Control Centers did not exist prior to 1957 when they were introduced within GEICO empire In 1951An ICBC subsidiary called Eastern Insurance Company merged with three other insurance companies – First National Insurance Company (FNI), Securities Exchange News Service Associates Corporation (SETNA)and Trust Companies Mutual Casualty Company (TCMC) all owned by Henry Moeller – forming The Metropolitan Life Insurance Corporation whose goal was “to insure people through property insurance transactions primarily but also risks arising out thereof” METRO LIFE INSURANCE CORPORATION WAS TRANSFERRED TO AMERICAN NATIONAL LIFE INSURANCE COMPANY ON JULY 25TH 1956 FROM AMERICAN GENERAL CORPORATION WITH THE PURPOSE OF PROVIDING DISASTER RELIEF IN THE EVENT OF A CATastrophic Catastrophe OR CASH FLOW CRISIS WHICH WOULD CONTAIN ANY NUMBER OF HAVOCS UPON AMERICA THAT WOULD EXTEND INTO EUROPE INCLUDING WORLD WAR III
East St. Louis was founded in 1812 by the Illinois Company as a trading post between the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River. In 1833, it became a city after being named for Easton, Pennsylvania, which had been Destroyed in a fire. The first black residents of East St. Louis were brought over from Africa in 1847 by General John Fenton, who was general of the United States forces in Europe during the American Civil War. East St. Louis was one of several Illinois cities to ratify the Ulysses S. Grant Amendment to the Constitution on November 3,1868 which granted voting rights to African Americans within their respective municipalities.
