This move saw a shift towards revolver manufacture as well; however, revolvers still accounted for a significant portion of business at this point. During World War II (1939-1945), Smith & Wesson produced over two million pistols for the military; these pistols were used by both Axis powers and Allied forces. The company also produced ammunition which was used by both armies during World War II. After the war ended, Smith & Wesson resumed handgun production under its own name while continuing to produce ammunition under other brands such as Remington Ammunition Company and Weatherby Ammunition Company until 1958 when they fully transitioned into pistol manufacturing again with their own line called “Smith & Wesson Model 9mm” firearms products only ever being sold through independent retailers across North America until 1986 when they finally disbanded operations following New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani's announcement that city law required all handguns must be carried without permits indoors/outdoors on any public property whatsoever starting January 1st 1987
