East Moline is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. It has a population of around 9,000 people and is the hometown of Chicago Bulls basketball player Derrick Rose. The first post office was established in 1851. The town changed its name to East Moline in 1907 after merging with neighboring village of West Moline. In 1958, East Moline became one of the municipalities within Cook County when it was merged with Oak Lawn and Lincoln Park. The city of Chicago annexed East Moline in 1961 and its residents were given voting rights. A fire destroyed most of the buildings in 1978 but Rose's home still stands today as one of East Moline's most popular tourist attractions.

The town of East Moline was platted in 1872. In 1899, the name of the town was changed to West Moline after settlers from Illinois moved into what is now WestMoline. In 1932, East Moline became an incorporated city. That year, it also became home to the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). UIC has been a major player in downtown EastMoline since its founding and continues to play an important role in the community today.
