The first firearms were muzzle-loading shotguns that fired balls of lead or shot from a tube inserted into the back of the gun. The early settlers used these guns to hunt game and protect themselves from raiders and nomadic bands of Indians. In 1828, John Davenport and his brother Isaac moved to Downers Grove, Illinois. They started a farming community and soon became involved in the local trade in ammunition. Davenport was able to find suppliers for imported British rounds and manufactured his own rounds using American bullets. His company became one of the most successful in the industry. By 1861, Downers Grove had become an important center for munitions production in Illinois. Ammunition manufacturers produced more than 1 million pounds of artillery shells, rockets, grenades, bombs, pistols and rifles per year during the Civil War! The end of World War I led to a Decrease in demand for munitions due to peace conferences that occurred around the world. However, new industries emerged throughout the 1920s that resumed production of munitions products following World War II’s devastation across Europe. Today, Downers Grove is home to several major ammunition manufacturing companies including Winchester Arms Company (Winchester), Remington Arms Company (Remington), Browning Arsenal Company (Browning) and many others!

Downers Grove, Illinois is a town in Cook County, Illinois. The population was 95,651 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area and is bordered by the county of Kane to the north, DuPage County to the east and south, Lake County to the west and northwest, and Will County to the southwest. The name "Downers Grove" was derived from a Native American word meaning "flat place." On November 3, 1836, James P. Downes founded what would become Downers Grove Township on land that he had purchased from John Kirby of Kankakee. The township was named for General James P. Downing's home town in England where he had been born in 1792. The first post office opened at Downers Grove on December 1, 1837. In 1870, churches began to be built in Downers Grove; First Methodist (later Moody Bible Institute), Congregational (later United Church of Christ), Presbyterian (later Presbyterian Cathedral), Baptist (later First Baptist Church) and Lutheran (later Evangelical Lutheran Synagogue) all became large congregations with many residents working with their churches as missionaries or pastors during various times throughout history. During this time period there were also several schools established including one for girls which operated until it merged into Loyola University Chicago in 1914; two high schools - Highland Park High School and South Side High School - both started up during this time as well along with a number of other technical/vocational institutions such as veterinary surgeons' school now known as Rush University Medical Center; numerous small business operations were established during this time including publishing houses such as Harper & Brothers Publishers and Jarden-Wright Paper Works; agricultural businesses such as McLaughlin Bros., Dennison Farms & Grain Elevators etc.; new subdivisions were created including Arlington Heights Westside Estates after World War II followed by Streamwood Manor following Korean War refugees who settled there during that time; many homes were constructed during this time including some now used by local government entities like village constables or fire districts etc.; today Downers Grove is an extremely diverse community composed of people from every corner of the globe with significant influence within local government bureaucracies worldwide During much of its history Downers Grove has been vibrant with cultural events taking place year-round ranging from arts festivals throughout late summer into early fall right up until Christmas eve when Downtown Springfield hosting their annual New Year's Eve party featuring live music nightly through out largest city park while most families stay put inside enjoying fireworks over downtown Springfield As an example recent cultural event which took place in depth within our community last week was Street Art Night which saw nearly 200 artists descend upon our neighborhood providing limitless opportunities for creative expression free from any type of commercialism or pressure exerted by anyone associated with either Mainstream Life or mainstream culture This event generated more than $10K worth of art sales resulting in increased foot traffic on our streetside corridor attracting even more creativity everyday thus continuing down an amazing path providing us all living examples that anything can happen if you just set your mind to it!

The first clips of ammunition were created in 1868 by Dr. John Fenton and Dr. George Stephenson, two engineers at the Royal Arsenal, Woolwich, England. The first use of small arms ammunition was during the American Civil War on April 12, 1861, when Confederate forces fired a volley from artillery pieces at Fort Sumter in South Carolina. In 1865, military engineer Brigadier General Oliver O'Connell designed an improved round for firearms that resulted in the7.62x25mm NATO cartridge. This cartridge saw widespread use in both World Wars with different types of rifles and handguns being used to fire it. Today's 7.62x39mm NATO rounds are still manufactured today and can be found throughout the world aboard ships and submarines as well as on land where hunting and target shooting is common practice.

It is the most populous municipality in Cook County and one of the fastest-growing municipalities in America. Home to many of Chicago's largest companies, Downers Grove is also known for its strong community spirit and its vibrant cultural life. The Village of Downers Grove was platted on October 5, 1873 by Drury & Company speculators from New York City. The name "Downers Grove" originated with Amos Downton who owned a farm on which the village stood. In 1881, Mayor John Ahern founded the first public school in Downers Grove as an elementary school for children of ministerial families living near downtownChicago. In 1907, when Chicago became a city and school District No. 1 was established within Cook County, Downers Grove municipal schools were transferred to that new district and continued to serve students until 1991 when they were merged into District 214 (Cook County). On December 2nd 1905 a fire destroyed several homes in what is now Herald Square; including two churches - First Presbyterian Church (now Christ Apostolic Lutheran) and Holy Trinity Episcopal Cathedral - both built around 1800 AD about one block west of today's Main Street intersection between Whitehall Crescent and Westinghouse Avenue NW corner serving as parish seats for these denominations from their original sites on grand old tree lined streets just east/west of Peoria Avenue today! This event helped spur development along what would become main street igniting numerous fires over ensuing years culminating with this disastrous loss that forever changed the character of our once thriving Village! Today only 4 Blocks long main street contains Only 6 dwellings...and all 6 homes are rentals or short term sales not part of any historic district! Firefighters had difficulty getting anywhere near them due to heavy smoke created by advancing flames! Thankfully no one was injured but it remains oneof Chicago's worst disasters ever resulting in loss of many homes & businesses!
