The blaze destroyed more than twenty businesses in the center including Sears and JCPenney stores as well as two movie theaters and several other buildings housing businesses such as hair salons, pharmacies, and restaurants. Despite this setback, Dolton has managed to maintain its identity as an agricultural community with large farms offering milk products, poultry, eggs, grains (especially corn), fruits (figs and apples), vegetables (turnips and potatoes),eeds (maize and sorghum), wheat flour for baking goods and furniture made from hardwood planks sourced from local mills; all while still hostling its own high school football team playing its home games at nearby Westmont High School until 2003 when they moved to Little Rock Township High School due to financial difficulties.
