Dolton, Illinois is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. It is located on the western edge of the Chicago metropolitan area. As of the 2010 census, Dolton had a population of 11,898. The town was founded in 1864 by John Dolton and his wife Eliza. Dolton grew up around agriculture and timber production; after World War I he turned to manufacturing goods such as radios and televisions. In 1925 he started building an optical plant with funds from the Ford Foundation. The company has since become one of the largest manufacturers of electronic equipment in North America. In 2006 it merged with Philips Electronics NV to formPhilips/Hertz AG,. The first electric lights were used in Dolton when John Dolton wired up some wires to light up his house with oil lamps which he got from his brother-in-law's wagonload of lanterns at night time while they travelled down the road to their farmstead near Pilsen on Long Island Sound. Manufacturing began at an experimental plant built by Mr Kline in 1927 using parts salvaged from dismantled radios imported from Denmark during that period (the first radio sets were produced in 1922). By 1934 there were over seventy employees working at the experimental plant making radios, TVs and other electronic products including transmitters for cable TV services as well as receivers for use indoors or outdoors! The first settler to arrive in what is now Dolton was John Doltone who arrived about 1800 with his son Daniel and wife Rebecca (née Purdy). They built a log cabin near present day Main Street and started farming although they did not have any land or tools. By 1814 there were twelve families living in what is now Dolton Township: 10 men and six women; 4 children under the age of sixteen; 2 adults over sixty-four years old; 3 hired hands including one man who worked for free while others paid subscriptions to help support their families; 1 boy aged six or seven years old who had been born to parents working off bond as farmhands on other farms nearby In 1857, John Doltone purchased 640 acres (248 hectares) along the Fox River from Amos Kendall for $1 per acre ($10/ha). He named it "DolTON". A post office was established at this location on November 7, 1860., but no mail ever arrived because nobody could actually reach it due to rapids upstream that would prevent boats from reaching the post office ashore In 1901,Mr Wm Golan moved into what is now Doltton Court House took up residence with his wife Nora after being displaced by floodwaters during boating season caused by heavy rains that year near Chicagoland Bridge across Fox River .
