Dolton was founded in 1836 by pioneers from Pennsylvania and Ohio as a small farming community on the edge of what is now Kane County. The town name comes from "Dołęgona", an ancient Polish village near Kraków that had been abandoned when the surrounding forest became too dense for farming and logging. In 1851, Dolton's first post office opened and continued to serve until it closed in 1904. The original frame houses were built between 1840 and 1851 by local farmers who desired a closer-knit community than ones located in rural areas far away from other settlements or markets. One house still stands in Dolton today: "Fenton House". A second wave of construction began around 1870-1875 with the purchase of more land by early residents who had relocated to the area following heavy industry boom times elsewhere in Kane County (the Panic of 1837 led to rapid population growth in Illinois). By 1880, there were over 200 homes and businesses within one mile (1 km) of where Dolton sits today. In 1907, Dolton incorporated as a Village under the leadership of Mayor Halsey Wicksworth. For several years after incorporation, Townspeople worked together to bring about basic changes such as water supply and sewage systems while also working on developing core civic functions such as education, fire protection, public works, library science research and development programs etcetera which continue to this day. Starting during World War II various industries have sprung up across Kane County including aircraft manufacturing plants; however it wasn't until after 1945 that agriculture truly took off due to increased demand for corn fed animals being raised throughout much of North America during these tough economic times; however dairy production has always been an important facet here especially given nearby White Flint's position as one of the world’s leading milkproducing communities dating back centuries (containing evidenceof surface finds dating back 50KBP). Dolton is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. Dolton was founded in 1836 by John Dolton and his wife Hannah. The original name of the town was "New Palestine." In 1845, the town changed its name to "Dolton" after Anthony Dolton, who donated land for the community. The population of Dolton increased from 350 in 1880 to 2,000 by 1920. It decreased to 1,500 by 1990 but has since re-developed into a small town with a rich history. The first settler in Dolton was John Dolton, who arrived in 1836 from Connecticut. He and his wife Hannah found a tract of land on the north side of Chicago River that they named New Palestine. They started building their home there and soon other settlers followed them to this new location on the banks of the river. By 1840, there were over 20 families living in New Palestine and businesses were being established such as a blacksmith shop and wagon Wheel Inn (later known as the Furniture Mart). In 1845 Anthony Dolan came across some property on which he planned to build a farmstead. After considerable debate among friends and family about where should be named for him – New Palestine or Dolton – he decided on naming it for himself instead so that everyone would know who had made this important decision. The community quickly grew around Anthony's house with people coming from all over Illinois to visit him and get their hands on what they thought was an amazing piece of real estate! Anthony's son John Auld erected another large frame home near center of village in 1850 which served as both courthouse and meeting hall until 1922 when it burned down; however, local residents still use parts of it today as homes/ offices/etc.. In 1865 John Auld's grandson James Auld organized a church group called Christians Uniting
