The first post office was established in Dolton on October 20, 1837. The present courthouse was built in 1893 and is one of the most notable examples of Moderne architecture in the city.

Dolton who fought in the American Civil War as a brigadier general and then colonel of volunteers from Illinois Territory. The site now occupied by Dolton Elementary School and Dolton Middle School were located on what is now State Street when they were built, but are no longer there because of development around them. The first schoolhouse in town was built on North Avenue in 1839-1840 by Reverend Isaiah Higginbotham and it served as the primary educational institution for the community until 1859 when it burned down to be replaced by a new building which also served as the village hall until 1895 when it burned again to be replaced by another building which still serves as the current village hall today. In 1865, Joliet Township (later Cook County) was created from parts of McLean Township (now Rockford), Des Plaines Township (later Arlington Heights), Kane County, and Winnebago County with headquarters at Chicago; however, Joliet Township never had any residents living there so its only function may have been ceremonial; nevertheless, nameake status continued to exist through various changes until 1992 when it joined with other townships within Cook County to form one large city – Chicago – making Dolonton redundant as an incorporated municipality although continuing to use its municipal nameakes throughout that time period

Dolton is also the birthplace of Orville Wright. The first white people to live in what is now Dolton were farmers who settled there in the 1840s. The first post office was established here in 1851, and it served as the county seat from 1853 to 1861. In 1871, however, the town of Dolton became a part of McLean County when it was organized. The creamery that currently serves as its namesake originated here in 1881 when J.P. Duffy began manufacturing ice cream out of his own dairy farm on Highway 21 near present-day Park City Road. DolTON CREAMERY This company started up by J P Duffy originally on Hwy 21 back in 81st Street and current Park City Rd location He started making them for friends and family members until he got rich! Dolton was founded by John Dolton in 1837. The town was named for John Dolton, who owned a large tract of land near the village square. In 1840, the first post office in Dolton was established. The first store in Dolton opened in 1846. In 1865, the first telephone line was installed in Dolton. In 1876, the first SUSPENSE farmsteads were built in Dolton. In 1927, the community trustees adopted aucket as its official name. The population of Dolton increased from 507 to 1,873 between 1951 and 1960; however, this growth stopped after 1960 due to an increase in suburban development around the village square and elsewhere within the community limits. In 1984, DolTON became part of Metairie Township; however, it reverted back to its original form as an unincorporated community on July 1st of that year.
