Dolton is a city in and the county seat of Dolton County, Illinois, United States. The population was 31,906 at the 2010 census. Dolton is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Dolton were French fur traders in the early 17th century. Captain Isaac de la Salle explored this area in 1679 while on his way from Canada to Michilimackinac Island. Dolton's history goes back to 1824 when John Wagoner bought 640 acres (240 hectares) of land east of present-day Joliet Township for $50 per acre. He named it "Dolton" after his wife, Deborah Ann Dulson Wagoner. In 1827, he donated an additional 472 acres (200 hectares) to the town of Joliet for $100 per acre ($6 per capita). It should be noted that these donations were not - as often reported - gift deeds; they were simply purchases with money that had already been saved up from various small business ventures and investments over several years. The first courthouse in Dolton was built in 1828 on what is now State Street nearpresent-dayJohnson Park. This building served as court house until 1840 when a new courthouse was erected on North Avenue between Erie and Cook Streets which still stands today as a museum open to the public called "The Original Courthouse." In 1850, following waves of immigration into Illinois due to overcrowding at existing settlements in other parts of the state, Dolton voted unanimously to become its own township with a population of fifty citizens only! On September 1, 1856, all residents within Dolton Township united with those within Joliet Township forming one large municipality under the name "Chicago". In 1865, during World War I there were many moves by businesses towards larger locations and so much growth took place that two streets – South Dearborn Road and West Randolph Street – were renamed State Street/Wabash Avenue– giving us our current name! The population reached 508 by 1880 but decreased steadily over subsequent decades due largely to racism against eastern European immigrants who began moving into Chicago as prices for housing rose along with wages! However by 1920 there had been a rebound thanks largely to federal jobs programs pushing people out of their homes into new areas such as Joliet and Lake Forest Hills where they could find work opportunities outside their home countries

The present day economy of Dolton centers around agriculture with some light manufacturingroduce such as cheese and eggs being produced locally while other businesses provide services such as transportation and health care services. There are also several stores that offer local foods along with several churches that dot the landscape providing religious services during weekday mornings or evening worship times
