Dolton, Illinois is a small town in Cook County, Illinois. The population was 1,822 at the 2010 census. Dolton is located in the far northeastern corner of the state and is bordered to the east by Blue Island Township, to the west by Oak Park Township, and to the south by Addison Township. The area that now makes up Dolton was first settled in 1848 by John Dolton and his family after they were driven out of their original home in Rockford by Native Americans. In 1853, Colonel George Stephenson founded a trading post on what is now called Stephenson Street in what is now Dolton. The post served as a stop for travelers on their way from Chicago to other points north. When Stephenson's store burned down in 1857, he donated land near present-day Golconda Road for a new store and warehouse which would become known as Colgate Stores Incorporated. In 1865, when Joliet became an incorporated town, Colgate sold its interest in the company to Joliet trustees who then sold it back to trustees on July 1st of that year. In 1893, some residents of nearby Addison Township petitioned the city of Chicago to annex them into its limits because they felt they had been neglected since annexation had take place only two years earlier! The request was granted and Addison became part of Dolton on October 15th, 1893. On November 3rd 1907 there was an Earthquake measuring 7.9Magnitude off shore off southern Illinois which destroyed most buildings within 10 miles including Dolton destroying many homes with loss total assessed at $5 million A new courthouse has been built since then but without any public services currently running it due funds being tight . There are plans for this building be turned into apartments however no decisions have yet been made about when or if this will happen On May 20th 2009 there were protests against high school tuition rates happening next door which lead to police being called

In 1916, the first post office was established in Dolton and it is still open today as The Post Office Annexe. In 1924, the first hospital in Dolton opened and it is still active today as the Dolton Hospital. The school district that covers DolTON has had three different schools since its establishment back in 1871: Tolerton School (1879), Mount Zion School (1924), and Holy Cross High School (1973). In 1957, the present day predominately black church called Second Baptist Church was built on land donated by George W. Dulon and his wife Nancy Baughman Dulon for that purpose only years later would other churches join forces with Second Baptist to become known as First Baptist Church of Joliet County which remains headquartered there to this day! In 1966-1967 an experimental agricultural program called "The Great Chicago Experiment" took place within the boundaries of what is now Joliet County which aimed to reduce disease rates among American farmers through using new technology including growing plants indoors rather than outdoors; however due to weather conditions during that time period not all crops were grown successfully resulting in a number of acres being devoured by weeds!

In 1847, Dolton became a county seat and remained so until it was reincorporated as a city in 1907.
