Dolton, Illinois is a small town located in the eastern part of the state of Illinois. Dolton was founded in 1836 by pioneer farmers who found success in the fur trade. The community rapidly grew during the early years of its existence, and by 1881 it had a population of over 1,000. Over time, Dolton became an agricultural center with a large population of corn and soybean farmers. During World War II, Dolton played an important role as a munitions production center for the United States. The town produced approximately 50% of all ammunition used in World War II. In 1954, Dolton incorporated as a city and continues to grow both economically and socially. Today, Dolton is one of the most densely populated communities in Illinois, with over 5200 residents living within easy reach of each other. The history of ammo production in Dolton can be traced back to 1836 when pioneers discovered success trading furs for firearms from Native Americans living along the Great Lakes region. During this time there were no laws governing ammunition manufacture or trade so firearms manufacturing quickly took off due to demand from settlers across the Midwest and Canada. By 1860 there were already sizable arsenals located in various towns throughout Northwestern Illinois; however much effort was put into organizing these arsenals into what are now known as rifle clubs (usually consisting of 10-15 men) which would fire antique pistols called “single shot Sharps” at formal matches held at local tournaments that often raised money for charities such as benevolence societies or roadsides polluting acid rain protests led by abolitionists during the late 1800s). In 1861 William Colt submitted his first revolver sights design to Congress but received no response due to financial difficulties caused byCivil War policies favoring Union forces over Confederate forces (at this time rifles were still being manufactured with detachable stocks making them suitable for military service). Colt submitted another design which he patented on October 6th 1865 titled “Improvement to Rifle Sights” This new design featured a smaller sight base that was mounted directly on top of an iron sight ring that could be rotated 360 degrees allowing elevation adjustments while firing single shot Sharps pistols (which continued to be popular until they fell out OF fashion towardsthe end of 19th century). In 1841, Dolton became the seat of government for the new county of McLean. In 1847, Dolton became part of the newly created township of Elmwood. In 1861, Elmwood was divided into two townships: one with Dolton as its center, and another with Elmwood Heights as its eastern border. The township name was changed to that of its original namesake in 1865. In 1892, Dolton acquired land adjoining Carbondale and moved its city hall and fire department there from Carbondale. It also built an addition to its city hall which still stands today. In 1957, Dolton annexed parts of Farmington Township including Carbondale and Lisleville. Dolton is a small town in the Kane County, Illinois area. The population was 7,824 at the 2010 census. Dolton is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. In 1818, a group of farmers from Kadetto Township founded Dolton on a piece of land they had purchased from the Sauk and Fox Indians. They named their village after George Dolton, an Englishman who had settled in what is now Racine County, Wisconsin in 1790. The first store opened in 1836 in what is now the elementary school building. In 1892, Dr. John Wills bought the property that forms today's eastern edge of Dolton and built a two-story frame house on it which he called his home until his death in 1902. He bequeathed to his son John Wills Jr., also known as John Wills III, most of his estate including much ofwhat lies east of I-94 (now State Road 2) and south of US Highway 41 (now State Road 6). After Dr. Wills' death, many families moved into this section of town during World War II because there were few farmsteads available elsewhere within Kane County when war began John Wills III continued to live on this property until 1951 when it was sold to John Fenton who renamed it "Willa Park". In 1969 Willa Park was acquired by Ray Lankford Associates who developed it into one of Illinois' leading golf courses The original clubhouse burned down in 1978 but was rebuilt and reopened as the current clubhouse with new facilities in 1984 In 1992 Pioneer Energy Corporation erected a large hydroelectric power plant on what used to be Willa Park's east side On Valentine's Day 1993 Pioneer Energy Corporation handed over ownership of Willa Park to Anadarko Petroleum Company for $365 million Anadarko Petroleum Company sold Willa Park back to its original owners in 2002 Today Dolton is one stoplight away from Downers Grove IL!

Dolton was a small town in Illinois, until the early 1920s when it became one of the most important centers for oil production in the Midwest. The town's heyday came during World War I, when many Doltonians were drafted to fight in Europe. After the war, Dolton experienced rapid growth as businesses opened up and people migrated from other parts of the country to work in Dolton. In the early 1920s, Dolton also saw its first African American resident, James Weems. By 1932, however, race had become a major issue in Dolton and residents began to agitated against white flight and integration. In 1922, President Warren G. Harding issued an executive order that declared all racial discrimination illegal in America. This action helped rally support for prohibitionism and contributed to increased violence between black Americans and whites throughout Chicago-area towns such as Dolton. In 1924, Mayor John Fenton announced plans to annex land east of town into Olney Township so that more businesses could be built there and reduce competition from nearby towns such as Joliet and Elmhurst. This annexation effectively ended DolTON's growth as an industrial center; by 1930 only two small businesses still operated there (a grocery store and a mill). However, this did not mean that life at Dolton was static; during these years many people worked at local farms or took part in community activities such as founding a library or participating in politics. The late1920s were tough times for DulTONians; prices for oil were increasing faster than wages which made it difficult for many people to keep their heads above water financially speaking. However, through collective effort some families managed to survive despite difficult times while others lost everything they owned due to high oil prices which caused mass layoffs across many industries including transportation (railroad companies), agriculture (farms), manufacturing (steel mills), mining (oil rigs), retail stores ( shoe stores) and service providers like physicians (dentists). Despite all these challenges though residents persevered because they knew that together they could make something happen no matter what happened with oil prices or other economic factors
Dolton was founded in 1848 by Levi Dolton and his father, Jacob Dolton. The town originally consisted of just a few houses and was within the towns of Moline and Seward. In 1857, the population of Dolton had grown to over 500 residents. In 1860, the first school in Dolton was opened. The town became a city in 1903.
