This scope featured a 50x power objective lens that gave it an advantage over other designs because it could penetrate deep into targets at long range without having to turn away from the target entirely. By 1840, most rifle scopes had been standardized to accept Snellen equivalents as objective lenses began to become available in increasingly larger diameters (e.g., 80x).
Des Plaines, Ill. is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 25,393 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The Village of Des Plaines was incorporated on February 14, 1892. The first settlers in what would become Des Plaines were a group of men and women who arrived on the ship "Plymouth" from New York City in 1847. They platted a town called Plymouth on their land which they named for Plymouth Rock, one of their ship's anchors. As development proceeded in the 1850s and 1860s, more people came to live in Des Plaines; by 1870 it had grown to include 1,500 residents. In 1892, the village of Des Plaines was incorporation into Cook County as an autonomous body with its own elected officials and court system. In 1916–1917 American Expeditionary Force troops fought World War I in southern France; during this time many Des Plaines residents served in military units including artillery batteries and infantry companies that went through Belgium and France on horseback or bicycle along with other American soldiers across Europe. After World War I ended most of these veterans returned home but many stayed behind to rebuild society following the war’s devastation; among them were architect Edward Burnham (1856-1946) who helped design many major buildings in downtown Chicago during this time period such as McCormick Place (now Millennium Park), Hennepin Avenue Bridge (now Randolph Street), and State Street Station (now Willis Tower). In 1957 Des Plaine voters passed a referendum authorizing annexation by neighboring Maywood Township because they felt that their community needed help maintaining its infrastructure after years of decline due to population loss from farming jobs elsewhere within Cook County combined with rising housing prices throughout much of suburban Illinois caused by baby boomer migration out west during the mid-20th century fueled by improved transportation methods such as jet travel and air travel when compared to earlier generations prior to automobiles became common household items Des Plaine has continued growth since annexation even becoming known for its famous “chocolate chip cookie” dessert numerous times over the years due largely to its location bordering two large manufacturing districts – Mattel Manufacturing Company operations located just south of North Avenue while Wrigleyville Operations located east off Interstate 95 north-central Illinois
