The Des Plaines Gun Club was organized in 1881 and is still in existence. The first gun club meeting was held on October 1, 1881. It was decided that there would be a rifle range, but the decision to buy guns was not made until December 3rd of that year. The name of the club changed to the Des Plaines Rifle and Pistol Club in 1886. In 1899, they added a shotgun range. In 1911, they started holding annual meetings which became more prominent as the organization grew and mushroomed into what it is today- one of the largest rifle clubs in Illinois. Des Plaines, Illinois is a town located in Kane County, Illinois. The population was 9,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The name "Des Plaines" comes from a French phrase meaning "flatlands." The first Europeans to visit what is now Des Plaines were fur traders who passed through the area in 1791 and 1792. By 1812, there were three small villages near present-day Des Plaines: Holyoke, East Zion and West Zion. In 1814, General Anthony Wayne's army invaded Illinois and destroyed all of the villages except West Zion. In 1836, when Missouri became an American state, Des Plaines became part of Kane County. At that time it had a population of only 100 people. The village grew rapidly due to its location on the Great Western mail route which connected Chicago with Iowa City and other points west. In 1847, Congress created a new county seat for Kane County – Joliet – but no town or village was chosen to become its temporary replacement. In 1850, Joliet was placed within Cook County and so Des Plaines lost its status as a villagealthough it retained some civil rights such as elected officials and voting privileges until 1949. The Village of La Grange amalgamated with nearby East Side Village in 1923 to form one large community known as La Grange Heights; however this merger also failed to bring about significant growth because both communities were exclusively residential rather than commercial or industrial areas with potential for economic development). In 1965 the Township of Arlington merged into La Grange Heights making it one municipality with a total population of over 15K residents (the township still covers most of eastern Cook County). Finally in 1969 Forest Park annexed neighboring Arlington making Des Plaines an officially incorporated city comprising over 25% of its total landmass including all but 3 square miles (10% water) within Forest Park boundaries! Today much remains unchanged from those early days when only few families resided in what would soon be called 'a city'. Some things have changed such as more housing being built on former farm land while many businesses remain thanks to consistent growth by annexation into larger municipalities like Chicago or suburban developments such as Schaumburg Hills or Glenview Hills

The development of cannon during this time led eventuallyto more widespread reliance onguns11-12-. As cannons became more efficient they began being used in warfare13-14-. However due mainlyto their destructive power artillery soon displaced handguns as the primary armamentsforWarriors15-16!. By 1812 muzzle loading rifles had become available which allowed small arms fire up close17-. This change lead ultimatelyto largescale Battles where Cannon played a very important role18-19!.
