Ammunition history in Des Plaines, Illinois began with the development of firearms in this area during the late 1800s. The first guns in this area were handguns, but around 1892 a rifle was developed by Major George Stephenson and named the Springfield Rifle after Springfield, Massachusetts. This rifle was used to shoot large game such as deer and bear. Soon after, other rifles were developed including the .22 caliber revolver and the 7.65 mm (.357 Magnum) handgun. In 1899 a new ammunition factory was founded in Des Plaines by Captain John J. Farrell and his son Lieutenant Colonel John Farrell Sr. They produced both artillery ammo (primarily for World War I) as well as ammunition for pistols, shotguns and rifles. Ammunition production continued until about 1922 when it was finally discontinued due to budget cuts within the military services throughout America during World War II. Today, Des Plaines is home to several small-time ammo manufacturers who continue to produce various types of ammunition products including handgun rounds (9mm Parabellum & .40 S&W), shotgun rounds ( buckshot &410 gauge), rifle rounds (6x39mmR & 5x57mmR), artillery rounds (a variety of munitions such as 155mm cannon projectiles) and even some reloading supplies for these types of weapons!

Des Plaines, Illinois is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 24,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The name comes from English Des Plaines which means "plain where the white people live." The first European to visit what is now Des Plaines was French explorer Jean-Baptiste Marquette in 1795. He named it after François-René de La Salle who had explored and mapped much of what are now Illinois in 1763-64. In 1808, Daniel Boone established a cabin here and hunted deer and turkey on his family's homestead until 1815 when he sold it to become part of Ottawa Township. In 1836, John Pritzker founded an iron works here that became one of the largest employers in town with over 200 employees manufacturing weapons and other items such as cannons and railroad ties. The company went bankrupt in 1857 but still left its mark on local culture by having a large parade through downtown each year on Christmas day (now known asDes Plaine Day). Pritzker died suddenly while traveling to Chicago for an event there some years later; however, his widow continued operation of the Iron Works until her death in 1915. In 1907–1908 steel magnate J.P.'s sonowned Northwestern Steel Company built a plant adjacent to Pritzker's ruins for furnishing equipment for soldiers fighting World War I; this also marked Northwestern's entry into the munitions business—the first time that this type of material had been used in Illinois since before battles like Bunker Hill or Saratoga happened there! The post office was established at Des Plaines on July 10, 1830 (one week after Prairie duChien) under excruciatingly long postmaster general requirements forbidding any new townships from being organized until May 1st due to fears that settlers might move into already existing ones without receiving proper notice! However despite all these obstacles (and some downright meanness by mail carrier officials), within five years Des Plaines had 12 mailbox locations including 2 ½ miles NE of downtown! The name of the town comes from a French phrase meaning "plain of milk and cheese." The first settlers arrived in 1824 and the town was platted in 1827. It became an incorporated municipality in 1903. Des Plaines is located on both sides of the Chicago River, about two miles east of downtown Chicago. The Town was founded by Loyal Americans who were displaced during the American Revolution by British forces. They set up camp on what is now State Road 21 near where they later built their courthouse and jail. In 1824 they petitioned for incorporation as a village but it did not pass until 1903 when they voted to become an incorporated municipality under the name "Des Plaines". The town has experienced significant growth over its history with a population increase of 143% between 1990 and 2000 alone! Its economy relies primarily upon services such as retail trade, professional training/workforce development, healthcare, education and research institutions located within or nearby Chicago; however Des Plaines also boasts some impressive agricultural assets including several thousand acres (1120 hectares) of corn-, soy- and wheat-based farmland which produces local cheeses including Boursin cheese, Gouda cheese and Ricotta cheese
