By 1850, gun hammers had evolved sufficiently enough that they became standardized across different firearm models worldwide. As such, they became an important part of any individual’s arsenal should they choose to use them while shooting or hunting purposes. The first European to visit Dekalb was Nicolas-Jacques Marquette in 1673. One account says he came looking for a place to build a trading post because he saw "a most beautiful plain" there. In 1837, John Pemberton purchased 881 acres (314 hectares) from Josias White and built what is now known as Pemberton Park on what are now DeKalb Boulevard and State Street within present-day Dekalb Township. In 1840, Black Hawk War veteran Solomon Rockwell donated land to the town on which Stonebridge Cemetery stands today. The first school in Dekalb was erected on this land in 1845. Dekalb became an unincorporated community when it was removed from Beecher Township to form Dekalb County on November 3, 1889 pursuant to an act of the General Assembly of Illinois; however, it remains part of Kane County as its only incorporated municipality extant today due to its location within that county's boundaries since 1912). On July 1, 1895 following passage by the General Assembly of Illinois placing Decatur and Rockford within Racine County; Dekalonians voted overwhelmingly not to secede from their county but do have unique rights and privileges afforded them therein under state statute including charter amendment establishing this special status quo until such time as they might desire secession or dissolution thereof; general election held November 3, 1995 resulted in re-establishment of Decatur/Rockford as separate municipalities with full powers accorded thereto including referendum procedures therein should such desires be entertained again by voters at some future date (i.e., any time hereafter). Dekalb has been a political and economic center in Cook County since its incorporation as a village in 1847. It joined the larger Chicago metropolitan area in 1995. Dekalb was founded on December 3, 1827 by John Randolph and other early settlers of what is now Dekalb County, Illinois. From its incorporation as a village on April 15, 1847 until it became a city on January 1, 1995, Dekalb was one of six villages in Cook County that were each granted charter status by the state of Illinois to allow them to operate independently from their respective townships or counties. The first European settler in Dekalb was DeKalb John Randolph who arrived with his family on December 3, 1827 from Kentucky via Wabash River Ferry. He purchased 640 acres (2 km²) north of present-day Decatur Street and built what would become known as "Randolph's Grove". In 1840 he donated additional land to the village for use as open space and commercial districts within the limits of what would later become Dekaloosa Township; this land included present-day Decatur Street between Racine Avenue south and east and Lake Shore Drive west to north . On July 1st1846 Decatur villeagued off with Racine Township when Racine Township attained full township form under State law which had been passed following the great Black Hawk War (1835-41). This event caused much agitation among residents within Decatur because they wanted their own township government separate from that located within Racine Township - still ==northwest==of where today's downtown sits!ref A large picnic held at Randolph's Grove soon followed following which both villages formed an alliance for common defense against future Indian attack!ref After some discussion it was decided that all citizens within both villages should vote on whether or not they wanted to join forces for this common defense and roughly two thirds voted yes! ref Voting began immediately upon formation of this alliance with Counties having no say - only members voting did anything!! ref The referendum results were: Village Of Decatur Villeage Onradius 66%yes majority
