Dekalb, Illinois is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. It is the only municipality in Cook County and home to the University of Chicago. The population was 21,824 at the 2010 census. Dekalb was founded in 1836 by John DeKalb as a place to raise corn for flour mills on the banks of the Willamette River. Dekalb grew rapidly during the late 19th century due to its strategic location between Chicago and other northern cities; it became an important transportation hub for goods flowing south from those northern cities and intoChicago's Central Park area. In 1903, Dekalb incorporation created a school board that would provide high-quality education for local children. During World War II, Dekalb played an important role in helping support American forces fighting in Europe; its factories produced munitions and other war materials. The postwar boom brought increased development to Dekalb; however, social unrest began to develop during the 1960s when black students started attending white schools in nearby suburbs. This trend accelerated after integration of public schools happened nationally in 1969. The City of Dekalb merged with Newton Township on July 1st, 2003 becoming one community with unified services under one roof - something that had been unsuccessfully attempted since 1967 when Newton Township split off from Dekalborhood due to lack of cooperation among different municipal entities within this small community located outside Loop 610 east of downtown Chicago (the original planned merger site). On November 15th 2009 Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced plans for annexation into Cook County which will result in an increase of population by 2 thousand residents over 10 years!

However, by 1825, John Brownell had developed a new type of propellant that caused these guns to fire much faster and more accurately than before. By 1830, most breech-loading guns had become reloadable with either expansionist or soft lead rounds

Dekalb, Illinois is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 20,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Dekalb was founded in 1837 by John Tilton and his family as a small log cabin on the east side of DeKalb River. The name "Dekalb" means "place where wood groweth." The first settler in Dekalb was Caleb Hale in 1837. Other early settlers were James Witherspoon, Isaac Griggs and George Chapman. In 1840, Peter Lane moved from Kentucky to start a gristmill here which became one of the most important businesses in Dekalb. The first canal running through Dekalb opened in 1846 and it soon became an important transportation center for goods coming down the DeKalbi River from central Illinois and points north. In 1865, Samuel Haggerty donated land to build what is now known as Haggerty Park; it served as a community park until 1978 when it was turned over to the city of Chicago for use as public open space. In 1870–71 David Stone built a sawmill on the confluence of the DeKalbi and Sangamon Rivers near present day Lake Michigan Avenue and North Avenue in Dekalb; this mill remained active until automated equipment replaced it in 1978.Stone also owned an opera house that played music throughout Chicagoland until its closure around 1975 due to low attendance rates; it had been leasing space from Sears Roebuck & Co., which managed then-north Side shopping malls acrossChicago at that time. In 1907–08 Effingham Township (later Cook County) merged with Decatur Township (later Kane County) to form what is now Dekalb township; this merger resulted in increased economic opportunities for residents of both townships because Decatur had landlocked jurisdiction within Kane County while Kane County had more northerly boundaries that covered much of central Illinois including parts of DeKalbi Township including present day Kokomo and Downers Grove.. During World War II, many people worked at Wernick Paper Company located just south of downtown Dekalby between State Street and Dearborn Street; this company manufactured paper products such as envelopes, stamps, paper towels etc.. After World War II Wernick Paper Company closed its doors but left behind an extensive collection of artwork housed among other items at several locations throughout southern Illinois before finally being donated to Northwestern Universityin Evanston IL during their centennial celebration campaign some years later.. Today's economy highlights technology with companies such as Amazon Kindle Fire/iPad mini production plants located along I-88 corridor northeast of town limits making tourism another major industry . As with nearly every other community situated along I-88 corridor there are multiple restaurants/bars offering various typesof cuisine all clustered near busy interstate exit ramps like I-290 exit 214A providing quick access to local attractions like Niagara Falls or Farmer’s Market
