Deerfield, Illinois is a town in McLean County, Virginia, United States. The population was 5,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Alexandria–Arlington– Fairfax Metropolitan Statistical Area. Deerfield was first settled in 1785 by Nicholas Perot and his father-in-law George Washington as a small farming community on an upper Potomac River valley. In 1802, the area became part of what was then called Howard County after Josiah Quincy, 1st U.S. Senator from Massachusetts. In 1814, the area became part of DeKalb County when that county was formed from parts of Howard and Fairfax Counties. Deerfield's growth began with its incorporation as a city in 1903 thanks to Mayor John Fenton’s leadership; it grew rapidly during World War I due to wartime production by General Electric Company (later GE) and other companies located there such as Johns Manville Corporation; post-war development included new housing developments and additions to the downtown business district which are still visible today. Today, deerfield is home to many businesses and residents who continue to participate in its strong economy including manufacturing (including GE), health care services (Kaiser Permanente), education (University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign), government services (FEMA), professional service firms (McKinsey & Company) and continuing research into energy technologies by University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign scientists

Deerfield is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 23,691 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Deerfield was first settled by German immigrants in 1813. The post office was established in 1825 and has been in operation since 1829. The name "Deerfield" comes from a hunting ground near where the town now sits. The first settler, Peter DeForest, had homesteaded on what is now south of State Street and west of Cicero Avenue. In 1827, John Davenport purchased some land from Peter DeForest and named it Deerfield after himself and his family. By 1830, all of Deerfield had been surveyed and plathed out as townships with one vote each (the exception being the newly founded village of South Side which only received its charter two years later). In 1847, John Pemberton donated 1/4 acre (0.16 km2) to be used for public school purposes within walking distance of his home as an act of generosity following his death that year; this became known as Pemberton Park today. In 1870s-1880s several streets were widened or rebuilt including High Street between Cicero Avenue and State Street which still bears their original namesakes: Hiawatha (now Addison), Elmwood (now Wabash), Delaware (now Dearborn), Palmerston (now Archer Heights), Quincy Market Place (now Oak Lawn Place) etc.. The Panic Of 1893 struck hard though many people did not lose their homes or businesses but there were also devastating natural disasters such as floods that year which destroyed large parts of downtown Chicagoans famed Lake Michigan shoreline including much valuable real estate including much owned by John Davenport’s son Abraham who lost nearly $500,000 worth of property along with many other families whose losses are still studied to this day especially due to efforts made by local organizations like One Hundred Years Old Island Club & Museum commemorating these events). Aftermath included mass emigration mainly Irish & Italian Americans followed by waves more recent American descendants over ensuing decades until all white residents left deerfield altogether during early 21st century demographic changes brought about largely by suburban development around town center – essentially turning a once vibrant small community into a ghost town dominated by high-rise towers& suburbs across the street! As development increased around town center over time Deerfield slowly slipped away from its once traditional agricultural economy becoming instead something more akin to an expensive gated community complete with high rises&Clubhouses surrounded by lush green yards typical of upscale suburbs located just outside Loop city Limits while Main Street fell into disrepair becoming little more than a lonely old dirt road leading up to nothing! Just before its official closure in 2006 it was announced that deerfield's last store would close down on May 30th 2006 however despite numerous protests from citizens over what seemed like blatant disregard for their wishes store owners stubbornly refused to close shop citing various reasons such as limited sales volume caused by changing demographics which sadly mirrored those seen throughout neighboring communitiesChatanooga & Mount Prospect closing no less than 15 months earlier barely missing 2 million+ active registered customers combined!)
