Darien, Illinois is a city in Darien Township, Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 562 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Cook County. The first settlers in what is now Darien were two brothers: George and Jesse Goode. In 1836, they founded the town on land that had been donated by John Hennepin. They named it after their friend and business partner Thomas Darlington. The first store in town was built on Washington Street and lasted until 1845. In 1847, the Goodes erected a large frame building on State Street which became home to the first post office in Darien. This building still stands today as part of the First National Bank Building complex. In 1853, General James Kapp sold 2 acres (0 hectares) of land to Jno Bogan for $5 per acre ($100 dollars today). This opened up much of what is now downtown Darien to development and allowed for larger buildings to be constructed without needing an original donation from someone like George Goode or his brother Jesse Goode again! In 1861-1862, Abraham Lincoln visited Darien while he was campaigning for president on behalf of United States Senator David Davis; many believe this visit may have helped launch his political career later on! After serving two terms as Mayor of Chicago (1868-1872), Abraham Lincoln returned to Springfield where he died six years later at age 56 after a long and successful life spent working close with both President Ulysses S. Grant and Vice President Andrew Johnson! I cannot help but think about all those people who made such small contributions – some that we know nothing about, others that are more well-known but whose story barely scratches the surface when it comes to Amounts they gave back into our community over time! What an amazing history we have here in America – not just our cities but also our townsfolk who have taken so much pride in their local communities across different parts of our country… especially when times get tough!

Darien is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 3,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first Europeans to explore and settle in what is now Darien were French fur traders in the late 18th century. The townsite that became Darien was platted in 1836 by Captain Ebenezer Chapman as part of a network of settlements called Tomahawk Prairie. In 1838, John Fenton purchased 1,000 acres (500 hectares) of land east of present-day Darien and laid out a subdivision named after himself: Fentonville. By 1840, development around the new town had picked up steam with some construction taking place on Indian Creek Road (now Ulysses S Grant Drive). In 1841, General Solomon Lincoln donated land for an academy which would later become Lincoln University; this donation helped spur rapid growth around the school. In 1861, when Abraham Lincoln was elected president, he appointed Colonel John Tompkins as commander of Union forces in central Illinois to help plan and carry out his agenda within the state including plans for railway construction through Darien and western Cook County. Tompkins pushed for more industry development in what would be known as "the Works Progress Administration" era which lasted until 1935; during this time period many large projects were executed throughout Illinois such as the creation of Chicagoland Water Tower Park and renovation of Union Station in Chicago. A post office was established at Darien in 1865; it remained open until 1959 when it was moved to Elmhurst, Illinois due to postal service shortages within Cook County during that time period. In 1888 – 1889 another post office opened at Villa Park which served areas north and east of where present day Lombard Street meets I-95; this area also included much rural farmland outside of downtown Chicago at that time frame In 1905–1906 a sewer system was built through town primarily for agricultural use with only limited urban residential usage By 1910 there were over 100 businesses located within one half mile radius from downtown Darien with jobs available for local residents who could not find work elsewhere . A streetcar line serving downtown began operations on April 6th 1915 making it possible for people living near by to get their morning coffee without having to leave their homes
