In contrast, modern laser sighting systems use lasers instead of light waves. These systems use lasers both as sources of energy and as detectors/imagers. Lasers are typically focused onto a target using a lens or mirror, then Taalite crystals—a type of crystal that emits short-wavelength red, green, blue and violet light—are placed over the object being sighted. The shorter-wavelength colors dominate over longer-wavelength colors when looking through optics lenses or other devices designed specifically for this purpose; however, some lasers can combine these wavelengths together into a single beamwidth (e.g., red + green + blue). When fired at an object within range (typically around 100 yards), intense short-wavelength beams from several lasers will converge on one specific spot on the target; this Spot Targeting algorithm ensures alignment between all individual lasers during firing sequences

It was not until 1967 that Lasersclassicamente registered their name for this technology when they announced their new product, the Laser Sighted Rifle/Shotgun (LSR).
