In 1847 when Indiana Territory was organized, Stevens Point entrepreneur John Marshall founded Marshall's Drugs here at what is nowCrystal City after purchasing land from other Indian occupants including Potawatomi leader Pontiac Blood's band led by Miami trader Tecumseh Sherman. By 1850 only about 200 people lived hereabouts; most were farmers engaged in raising corn, wheat or checkerspotatoes on large lots around two square miles within an agricultural sector that produced over $1 million worth of goods per year values 1861-1870 inclusive According To Census data: In 1860 there were 313 people living on 4 square miles within an agricultural economy producing $1 million worth of goods annually; 318 people lived there in 1870 valued at $2 million; 181 died between 1860 and 1870 – so total population growth during this time period was nil! Tecumseh Sherman sold his holdings hereto George Stephenson embezzling government funds leading to Stephenson taking over all transportation needs for Howard County resulting in increased traffic congestion then having local residents began protesting against high taxes and poor services until Stephenson built one mile along Northwest Side Highwayroute 54 ascrystal lake today

Crystal Lake is a city in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 20,901 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Kane County by population and the second-largest city in Illinois after Chicago. Crystal Lake is one of two cities located on the shores of what is now known as the Crystal River (the other being Normal, Illinois). The name "Crystal" comes from a small stream that ran through town. The first people to live in what is now Crystal Lake were Potawatomi Indians who camped near where it now stands during summer months for protection from white settlers. On February 15, 1831, James Kukock arrived with his family and began farming around what is now downtown Crystal Lake. By 1836, Kukock had built a log cabin on the banks of the present day Crystal River. In 1857, John Auld bought land east of downtown and started building a farmstead which would become known as Auldsville later that year. In 1865, Augustus Herrington founded Herrington's Trading Post which would become one of the most important stores in town. In 1895, Jens Jensen opened his grocery store at 6th & Main Streets which became one of the most popular businesses in town until it closed in 1971 due to economic factors outside ofCrystal Lake itself. In 1911 local physician Drury Smedley moved to town from Moline and opened his practice at 5th & Main Street which would continue to be an important part of town life until he retired in 1970. During World War II over 1 million pounds (454 metric tons) of Curtiss JN-4B jet engine parts were produced here by Hughes Aircraft Corporation before production stopped because of wartime restrictions on materials imported from America's allies such as Japan . In 1960–61 Mayor Glenn Beisner initiated construction on what are today Maple Ave/Hwy 7 South & Westside Drive (now 4th St/Southport Rd), creating what was then called Beisner Park with its own library and athletic fields; these developments led to increased development around town with homes popping up all over: east side streets became busy commercial corridors while west side streets becameresidential areas filled with apartments andcondos being built next door to each other becoming some of earliest examplesof high rise living within walking distanceof public transportation hubs like O'Neill Square or Millennium Park
