Crestwood is located east of Carbondale and west of Normal. The Town of Crestwood was organized on February 14, 1868 from parts of the towns of Parkersburg and Warsaw. It was named for Colonel John Fenton who had come to Illinois in 1825 as an agent for Andrew Jackson's presidential campaign. Fenton helped to found the town on a tract he had purchased from the chief justice of Michigan Territory on April 7, 1868. The first post office opened in Crestwood on May 1, 1870; it was renamed Parkersburg on November 15, 1870. A railroad station called Parkersburg Junction was built by the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad (CGRIP) in 1914 within walking distance of present day Crestwood Elementary School and high school buildings. The train depot served as both a convenience store and grain storage until it burned down in 1945; however, evidence suggests that some trains continued to stop at the depot until after that date due to its convenient location across from Highway 13 southbound near what is now Interstate 84). The town enjoyed brief prosperity during World War II when many local farmers produced crops such as corn, soybeans and wheat for military use; however this time period also saw a rapid decline in population due toarpopulation growth rates throughout much of rural America which outpaced local economic development opportunities during these years - particularly during World War II when many Americans traveled outside their home country for war service.) Today there are only a few businesses remaining active along with several schools including Parkersburg Elementary School which serve students grades K-5th grade while Crestwood High School serves grades 6 through 12th grade.. In addition to these two schools there are also three churches serving populations ranging from single family homes all the way up into multi-unit dwellings: First Presbyterian Church (Church Site #1), Methodist Episcopal Church (Church Site #2), Southern Baptist Convention (Church Site #3). There are also several government agencies included within certain portions or entirety including: Village Hall where community meetings take place monthly; Police/Fire Department - which services both village residents as well as neighboring towns; cemetery which includes resting ground for more than 60 individuals including approximately 25 Revolutionary War veterans.; Businesses include one restaurant/cafeteria operated by an affiliated church affiliated with First Presbyterian Church while another business operates closed since 2005 under various names including "Pizza Hut" & "Lone Star BBQ"; teacher jobs available at Middlesex High School while most other job openings have been filled by recent graduates or employees hired shortly after graduating college.).
