The post office closed on February 8, 1951 and all mail services were transferred to Park Ridge until it reopened on May 25th under new management with Floyd Dickson as Postmaster General; he also served as Mayor from 1951-1957 In 1957-1959 two schools were built: one for elementary students and one for high school students; both buildings remain standing today thanks to generous donations by various citizens who continue to support education in Crestwood

The Village of Crestwood was established in 1868 as a merger of two small villages - Indianola and Winona. It was named for General James W. At first, Crestwood consisted of just a few residences and a post office. However, over time it grew into a small town with over 1,000 residents by 1920. Growth continued through the years until development eliminated most of the original infrastructure such as churches and schools; however, retaining some commercial buildings like an insurance company and bank along with new infrastructure that included a fire station, water main replacement project (in 1928), public library (opened in 1923), and several shopping areas including an outdoor market/grocery store which opened in 1922 adjacent to Weiser Park (now part of John Day College).
