Crestwood, Illinois is a town in Richland County, Illinois, United States. The population was 3,392 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first shooting target holders were made in Crestwood by a man named John Kapp during the late 1800s. By 1902, there were several businesses in Crestwood that were manufacturing targets and selling them to interested individuals or businesses. The business became known as Kapp's Armory and continued to produce targets until it closed in 1922. In 1924, Harry Weems began producing Shooting Target Holder equipment at his home-based company called "Weems Manufacturing". This company continued producing target holders until it ceased operations in 1944. "Weems Manufacturing" was one of the few businesses that produced Shooting Target Holders without using any child labor or hiring anyone under 13 years of age for their job functions including manufacturing target holders (the other companies used children who worked long hours assembling their products). Weems Manufacturing also employed women as clerks and assistants from 1915 until 1922 when they disbanded due to World War I regulations which required all female employees working outside the home to be registered with the government as prostitutes on suspicion that they might be aiding enemy combatants during wartime. Harry Weems died in 1944 and his son Donald took over production of Shooting Target Holder equipment from him until his death in 1976. In 1976, Donald's wife Gladys took over production of Shooting Targets Holder products from him and operates today as "Gladys' Armoury". As of 2010, Gladys' Armory produces most of the ammunition for their product line which consists primarily of traditional lead shot projectiles designed for use against sporting targets such as pigeons and deer hunting stocks etc.).

Crestwood is a census-designated place in Illinois, United States. The population was 413 at the 2010 census. Crestwood is located in central Cook County and is bordered by the towns of Freeport to the north, Clinton to the east, Tinley Park to the south, and Ravenna to the west. The name "Crestwood" originated from a Scottish name for an area near Inverness on Loch Ness called "Crestwood Brae." The first settler in Crestwood was James Witherspoon who arrived in 1820. During the 1830s Mennonite settlers arrived and founded a community called Springerville which separated from Crestwood in 1836. A post office called Crestwood was established in 1853, and remained open until it was discontinued in 1893. In 1886 William Kapp purchased land northwest of Crestwood and began developing it into what is now known as Kapp's Forest Park. It served as one of Chicago's first enclosed malls (). According to 2000 U.S. Census data, there were 421 people residing in Crestwood when counted by ZIP code (62401). However according to 2002 U.S Census data that number had increased to 439 due largely to annexation of part of Clinton by CrestWOOD following approval of a referendum passed by voters thereon November 2nd2002 (). In 2006 crest wood had an estimated population density exceeding 500 people per square mile () making it one of the most densely populated places within Cook County.. In 2007 crest wood annexed part of Clinton creating yet another housing development with an estimated population density approaching 700 people per square mile ().
