Crestwood is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Crestwood is located on the north side of Chicago and is bordered by La Grange to the northwest, Aurora to the northeast, Oak Park to the east, and Streamwood to the south. The first Europeans to visit Crestwood were French missionaries who arrived in 1781. In 1818, John Selby purchased land in what is now Crestwood from Nicholas Urigan for $2,000. The village charter was granted on October 15, 1824. In 1837–38 an act of Congress authorized funding for a school district in Cook County which would include Crestwood and other towns on the north side of Chicago; this district became known as "Cook County Agricultural District No. 5". In 1868–69 a new courthouse was built in Crestwood with land donated by Samuel Priestman and later bought by J.P. Morgan & Co.. The Methodist Church (built 1888) served as both a church and school until it burned down in 1954; it was replaced by a new building which still stands today (2005). Beginning in 1902 when railroads began coming through southern Illinois they also brought workers and their families along with them; within five years of arriving there were so many people living there that a special town meeting had been called to discuss annexing neighboring communities such as Arlington Heights or Mayfield while keeping Crest wood’s name because “the inhabitants could not live without it[…] its location made it desirable for schools and churches” (Foley). This idea didn't take off however; instead local newspapers started calling each other's villages simply "CrestWOOD" rather than annexing them again like they had before (Foley). In 1907 when Edison Electric Light Company opened up shop west of downtown Chicago one employee began setting up electricity generation plants across from town limits – this company eventually became General Electric Company but during their time here Edison erected several large electric signs reading "Edison - crestwood" leading many locals to believe that he actually lived here! By 1925 Edison's electricity production had dwindled significantly due largely to regulations put into place following World War II preventing companies from operating near military installations so soon after Pearl Harbor – all these industries went out of business leaving crest wood with few options but annexation once more! This annexation did not sit well with locals so much so that even though they voted against annexing again in 1951 they did manage get an agreement passed allowing businesses within city limits but no change occurred thereafter until 1957 when finally annexed Fully! The current incarnation of crest wood began form around 1960s primarily due 2 factors: firstly police department being created then secondly general store opening up next door providing jobs for residents- typical small town life wasn't always easy going especially since most residents grew Up outside city limits ever since so very few took pride or interest in having their own community/townhome inside city Limits

Crestwood is a small town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. Crestwood was platted in 1852 and named after a wooded hill east of the town center. The first settler in Crestwood was John Crouch. He built a cabin on a bluff overlooking the river in 1854. A post office called Crestwood was established in 1855, and remained in operation until it closed in 1907. In 1865, Josiah Willard built a log cabin near where the current courthouse stands today. The first school opened in 1872 and continued to operate until it closed in 1957; during that time, Crestwood had one teacher for every twelve students. In 1870, Amos Hodge purchased land east of Crestwood from Nicholas Bigelow; this became known as Hodge Heights (later divided into two tracts). With his purchase came an opportunity to build a new courthouse within sight of both towns; this building was completed and dedicated on November 11, 1871. At that time, Crestwood had one teacher for every thirteen students and one store for every six residents; however, by 1900 both schools had been closed and replaced by public buildings。 In 1915-16 Dr Anna Jarrell served as superintendent of education for Cook County IL; she also founded the Anna Jarrell Day School which now operates out of Town Hall Plaza downtown while continuing to offer Head Start services to pre-school children across three blocks east from Main Street.). From 1927 through 1961 Mrs Florence FitzGerald led the Methodist Ladies’ Auxiliary which ran many services including pet care (in addition to feeding grocery stores), gardening (including apple orchards) and carpet cleaning throughout all four wards served by Ft Wayne – Goodrich Avenue being their main focus area….. Mrs FitzGerald died suddenly on October 25th 1961 aged 64 years old & is buried at Elmhurst Cemetery…. On December 1st 1951 local paper reported that Mrs FitzGerald’s remains were exhumed from her original resting place & moved back inside Pleasant View Cemetery……….. After more than 60 years service as SuperintendentMrs FitzGerald’s death remains unknown but most likely due to natural causes………….. UponMrs FitzGerald’s death her replacement as Superintendentwas not announced but Gertrude Muller who later served until 2003 when Linda Byrum became Superintendent………. Today there are only 6 residents living within 2 miles of municipal limits with no commercial property available between those boundaries….. Although small compared to other Midwestern towns its history reflects some interesting events such as: pioneer settlement along banks of Ottawa River the establishment of government by appointment rather than election thru Governors appointed Chiefs Landrants etc., prohibition against African Americans owning land within white populated areas following Pecos War etc.; growth due largely to immigrants coming here looking for work during difficult times
