Crestwood is a small town in DuPage County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,869 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first settler in Crestwood was James Davenport who came to the area in 1827. He named the land "Harrison's Prairie" after his son-in-law, Harrison Smith. Davenport also built a log cabin near what is now Crestwood High School. A post office called Crestwood was established in 1828 and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1837, Isaac Brockman settled on a farm five miles east of Crestwood with his family which he named "Brockman's Prairie". Brockman operated a gristmill and sawmill near where present day Union Park stands today. He also raised chickens and pigs on his farmstead. In 1879, George Haggerty purchased some of Abraham Lincoln's former White House lot north of Crestwood from John Nicolay and Lewis Cass for $5,000 (). Haggerty renamed it "Lincoln Park". In 1905, he sold the property to Jock Smeaton who donated it to the city of Chicago for use as an open space known as Jackson Park(). Smeaton also founded Camp Woodstock there which served as home to Chicago's first summer baseball camp (1892). In 1925, Forrest Sherman bought 5 acres from Jock Smeaton located east of Lincoln Park for $2 cash (). Sherman cultivated corn there until he sold it to George Allen Reed in 1933 for $6 million (). Reed built Forest Glen Drive through Crestwood into one of America's most prestigious neighborhoods ()
