In 1904, a railroad station was built in Crestwood; it served as the town's main transportation hub until 1959 when Amtrak took over operations of the line. In 1927, Crestwood became home to America's first high school football championship game between Northwestern University and Drake University (the "Blue Jays"). During World War II (1939-1945), many factories were located in or near Crestwood; these included Ford Motor Company's Willow Run Arsenal plant and DeKalb Rubber Co.'s Matteson Plant No. 5A In 1960, with population growth outpacing that of any other village within Will County during this time period due to new housing developments being constructed along Lake Michigan Avenue such as Homan Plaza and Regency Village developments Interstate 55 also crossed into Crestwood yards from northbound lanes onto southbound lanes creating an ever growing mess on I-55 just east of crest wood . This created problems for both drivers and residents as cars traveling east down I-55 would have their rear end mashed against those traveling west up I-55 which caused backups both ways every day morning and evening lasting several blocks

Crestwood, Illinois is a small town in McHenry County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,043 at the 2010 census. Crestwood was platted on February 14, 1871 by J.D. Overstreet and Wm. Hickey and named for its location along the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad. The first settlers in Crestwood were farmers who grew corn and beans. In 1865, the railroad arrived and made farming much more efficient; as a result, Crestwood became one of the earliest towns in McHenry County to become agricultural hubs with dozens of small businesses providing services to residents. Today, many of those businesses continue to thrive thanks to their ties to the local community – such as lending money or consulting on agricultural issues – as well as their close proximity to Chicago’s metropolitan area. As Crestwood transitioned from an agricultural town into a vibrant city center over time, its streets turned into bustling arterial thoroughfares that attracted merchants and professionals alike eager for access to new markets and opportunities. By 1975, Crestwood had overtaken neighboring village of Elmhurst as McHenry County’s most populous municipality with a population of 17,878 (10% more than Elmhurst). Today, Crestwood remains an important economic center within McHenry County thanks in part to its strong infrastructure - including high-speed internet service and modern parks - which has helped it keep pace with overall development trends in the region. It is also home to several major business districts including The North Side Business District which includes several upscale retailers as well as larger office buildings; The South Side BusinessDistrict which comprises smaller retail outlets along with some professional offices; and The downtown district which features a mix of housing units (and some commercial properties) as well as public space used for events like festivals or bike races
Crestwood was founded in 1807 by John and Deborah Crestwood. The Crestwoods were pioneers in the Illinois Territory, and their home was the first permanent settler's home in what is now Crestwood Township. They built a log cabin on the current site of their house, which they named after their father, John Crestwood Sr. The original town meetinghouse was located on State Route 12 near present-day Villa Park. In 1828, the township was organized and crestwood became a part of it. In 1877, the Illinois General Assembly passed a bill creating village form of government for townships with more than two thousand residents. Florence became one of those villages and crestwood remained as its only town until 1985 when it merged with Villa Park to form a new township.
