Crestwood, Illinois is a small town located in the southern portion of the state of Illinois. It has a population of about 2,500 people. The town was founded in 1846 by Capt. John Haines and his family. Crestwood is known for its rifle stocks history. As a result, it has been home to many famous rifle manufacturers and dealers over the years. The first rifles manufactured in Crestwood were shotguns. In 1881, Captain Haines' son James W. Haines purchased a sawmill on the banks of the Sangamon River and began manufacturing rifles there using traditional methods including hand-forming each barrel from solid oak logs. In 1911, Captain John Haines' grandson Harry Ewing bought the mill and began producing rifles under license from Remington Arms Company. This company became one of Illinois's most successful firearms manufacturers during World War I because they supplied both Allied forces and their own troops with high quality weapons that performed admirably in action against German soldiers and Aircraft alike. During Prohibition, Harry Ewing exported many handguns to prohibitionists in Cuba but he was never able to produce any rifles due to restrictions placed on him by the United States government at that time. In 1937, Harry Ewing's son Harold purchased the mill from his father and continued production as Harold Ewing Firearms Corporation until 1984 when it merged into American Outdoor Brands Incorporated (AOBC). Captain John Waring Haines had two sons who also became firearm entrepreneurs; Frank Bowering Haines ran AOBC from 1978-1986 before becoming CEO of Browning Arms Corp., which produces bolt-action hunting shotguns under license from Colt Firearms Corporation (CFL) since 1949; and George Prentice holder Olin Firearms Corporation produced light machine guns between 1964-1967 before becoming CEO of Springfield Armory Incorporated in 1969 when that company merged with American Arsenal Incorporated (AAI). all three fathers had an important role in helping Toombs Manufacturing Company become one of America’s leading firearms manufactuers during this time period

Pool opened the pool shop on State Street and continued to build rifles there until his death in 1957. His son, Jack Pool, operated the shop from 1957-1976. In 1976, the shop closed due to lack of customers and a shift in focus to manufacturing pistols and shotguns at their new production facility off University Avenue in Champaign, Illinois
Crestwood, Illinois is a small town in the heart of the Dubuque County seat. The population was 9,912 at the 2000 census. The village had a population of 7,824 as of July 2010. Crestwood is located in west-central Dubuque County and includes most of the unincorporated community of Crestwood Manor. It is bordered by the communities of Dunkirk to the east, West Dundee to the north, and Clymer to the west. The first Europeans to set foot in Crestwood were French fur traders who visited in 1795. In 1802, John Darnall founded an asylum for orphans near present-day Crestwood Village. A year later, he donated land for a public school which opened in 1805. By 1810, Crestwood had become a thriving farming community with two churches and eighteen homes. In 1814, Nathan Herrick established what are now known as Herrick's Mills on his farmstead north of present-day Crestwood Village. This milling company produced flour and paper products until it ceased operations in 1924 when technology advanced and more efficient mills became available. However, some remnants of this company still operate today; their flour is sold under the name Herrick's Old Mill Flour/. In 1865–66 Anson Holmes began construction on what would become one of Dubuque County's earliest hospitals – St Joseph’s Hospital – which served patients from both rural and urban areas alike until its closure in 1978 following pressure from health concerns over pollution from industries such as steel production that were then being built nearby without any regard for safety or environmental impact! In 2006–07 King Middle School (KMS) was dedicated as part of National Heritage Month celebrations honoring early American pioneers who had made their mark on Dubuque County! KMS was built utilizing funds raised during local event held at DU Shopping Center on November 6th 2006 & funded by Friends Of King Middle School

In 1871, the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railway built a line from Crestwood to West Dundee. In 1892, the city council renamed Crestwood City Hall in honor of Mayor W.H.O. Morse.
