Crestwood is a small community in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 462 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. Crestwood was founded in 1867 by John and Tabitha Beard as a village on the east side of the Sangamon River. The Beards were among the first farmers in that area. In 1933, Crestwood became a town when it annexed the neighboring towns of West Dundee and North Dundee. In 1961, it merged with neighboring villages of South Elmhurst and East Dundee to form a new town called Crestwood-East Dundee. In 1973, it merged with neighbouring village of North Elmhurst to form another new town called Crestwood-North Elmhurst. In 1990, it detached from North Elmhurst to become an independent township named after its founder, John Beard III. The history of Crestwood can be traced back to 1867 when John and Tabitha Beard founded what would eventually become known as Crestwood Village on the east side of the Sangamon River in McLean County IL USA. For many years this small farming community thrived off agriculture and trade with nearby settlements such as West Dundee (now Arlington Heights) & North Dundee (now Oak Park). However during World War II there was much activity within this small community due to soldiers stationed here for military duty or working on local farms munitions production which led to growth for both businesses & residents alike! After World War II ended things slowed down for Crestwood until about 1965 when annexing neighboring towns South Elmhurst & East Dundee made things even more stagnant due to lack of resources available which again lead to growth! By 1970-1972 crest wood had reached its current size boasting over 500 citizens! And continue growing ever since! Today’s crest wood comes into beingthanks largely in part to powerful ripple effects brought on by economic recession throughout much of recent past decade while still maintaining strong infrastructure including high school, post office & other essential services 😍👍🏼
