Crestwood, Illinois is a small town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. It is the namesake of Crestwood Mall. The population was 7,411 at the 2010 census. Crestwood was originally a farming community and until recently had only one post office which served the village of Crestwood. In 1971 it became a city when the villages of Crestwood and Park were merged into one. Crestwood is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The Illinois state motto is "Erect as He May" and Crestwood has been known for its large Cedar Park Lake and several other parks as well as its rich history dating back to 1829 when it was founded by three brothers who named their farm after two of their father's friends: William Crestwood and Isaac Newton Crestwood. The first settlers were farmers who arrived in 1829 from Kentucky and Ohio. They built log cabins on the site of present-day Crestwood Lake. In 1837, the brothers sold their farm to John Phelan, another Kentucky farmer. Phelan gave land to each settler for $100 per acre (4¢ an acre). By 1840, about 100 people lived in Crestwood. In 1847, John Aiken purchased the farm from Phelan and built a sawmill on the stream that ran through crest wood into which he had dug a canal for water conveyance purposes. Aiken operated this mill until 1850 when he sold it to Daniel Daley Jr., son of Daniel Daley Sr.. Daley rebuilt it and made it one of the largest mills in Illinois at that time with a capacity of 200 barrels per day (bpd). In 1865, he donated property along State Street east of his mill to create what is now Loyola University Chicago School Of Business Administration campus; this donation remains one of the most significant gifts made in memory of Daniel Daley Jr.. This millinery complex still stands today next door to Loyola University Chicago’s main building on Wacker Drive just south of Michigan Avenue between Grand Avenue and Halsted Place. This millinery complex housed many iconic brands including Bergdorf Goodman (founded 1909), Sears Roebuck & Co., JCPenney Co., Macy's Incorporated (1902), Belk department store (1940–1964) and finally First National Bank & Trust Company from 1968 until its closure during bankruptcy proceedings in 2003. Daley also donated land east of his millsite for use as homeopathy clinics beginning in 1865; these clinics remain extant today at 151 E Washington St between Ashland Avenue and Wayne Boulevard/Elston Place across from Christmastime Eve Parade stagecoach stop opposite Holy Cross Cathedral located at 150 Elston Place adjacent to Art InstituteChicago Campus occupying much space within current day Prairie View A&M University campus across Michigan Ave between Harold Washington Blvd./ Wright Museum Dr./Lincoln Center Dr./ Navy SEALS Academy training academy building adjoining McDonough Road/Lake Shore Drive just north thereof located immediately west thereof since 1975) . From 1830 through 1860 there were over 20 churches established near or within 500 feet (150 m)of where present-day Crestwood Park now stands – all without any organized church leadership or denominational affiliation! These churches served various denominations such as Methodists (1830–1860), Baptists (1830–1860), Congregationalists (1830–1860), Presbyterianism (1800s), Episcopalians /Anglicans / Catholicos / Lutheranism(1800s)/ Unitarian Universalist Association(1900s)/ Methodist Episcopal Church USA(1920s)), African American Baptist Churches Arktis Missionary Baptist Church Trinity United Methodist Church Pilgrim Bible Missionary Baptist Churches Second Congregational Methodist Episcopal Zion Presbyterian Church pastors etc.) Interestingly enough not one single building remaining standing today marking those early churches locations except perhaps some cemetery stones! Many more buildings were destroyed by fire or natural disasters such as floods or windstorms prior to 1860 although evidence suggests over 50% may have survived! All told there must have been closeto 300 churches established near or within 500 ft² (>= 025 acres)of where present-day Crestwood Park now stands during this timeframe providing opportunities for religious diversity which was critical given society’s rapidly changing landscape! A new school was built by John Galt circa 1800 called “westminster academy” which taught both boys and girls but because demand grew not enough classrooms were Built so it became known simply as Westminster Academy after James Galt bought it circa 1831 . John Galt purchased Westminster Academy circa 1831 from James Kirkpatrick making it oneofthe earliest primary schools in crest wood
Crestwood was first settled in 1812 by George Washington and his family. The town was named after the crest of a horse that Washington rode when he first arrived in Illinois. In 1820, the name of Crestwood was changed to Crestwood Heights because of the rise in population. By 1840, Crestwood had about 100 residents and the community became a village. In 1847, Crestwood Heights became a city and it has since grown to be a metropolitan area with over 1 million people.
