Crestwood is located on the west side of Cook County and borders the towns of South Elgin to its south and Westchester to its north. The first people who lived here were the Potawatomi Indians. Crestwood was first settled by white people in 1836 when they bought land from the Potawatomi Indians. They named their settlement after Fort Dearborn in Michigan, which they saw from their farmstead on the east side of the river. The first store in Crestwood was built by John Dickson in 1840. By 1860, there were 10 stores in Crestwood with a population of 1,500 people. In 1873, Jno Condon built a gristmill at what is now corner of Center and Elm Streets. This mill processed flour for local farmers and make cheese and other products for export to Canada and England. In 1886, Chas Aiken donated land on which he had erected a log house as a memorial to his late wife Anna Aiken Pemberton (1824-1906). Mrs. Pemberton was one of many pioneers who came to Crestwood during that time period to start new life after leaving slavery in Mississippi via transported slaves overland through Iowa into Illinois Territory where they were registered with Indian Agent David Stone under Act No., 35 USCS § 177 et seq.. After her death she bequeathed her home called "The Oaks" (now known as "Anna Aiken Home") along with 600 acres (24ha) surrounding it to establish an agricultural college campus near present day University Park Boulevard in neighboring Westchester Township adjacent to Stony Brook University In 1896 Mrs Pemberton's bequest granted ownership of both colleges together forming Northwestern State College This institution evolved into Northwestern University today There are still several buildings remaining on Mrs Pemberton's original campus including The Old House which currently houses offices for Northern Illinois University Police Department On October 15th 1902 about 350 men drilled wells within 100 feet (30m) or so of Mr Dickson's store at what is now corner Elm & Center Streets across from First Congregational Church . Drilled water brought heavy rainfall that week resulting in mudslide that destroyed much property downstream creating some impact loss valued around $50 000USD Flooding also occurred destroying infrastructure including roads leading into town limits

Crestwood is located on the Missouri River and has a rich history dating back to 1828 when it was part of the independent village of Pekin which merged with Quincy in 1831. The first settler in Crestwood was John Cramer who arrived in 1828 from Germany with his family. He built a log cabin on what is now State Route 66 just south of Interstate 44 near milepost 6076. There were several other early settlers such as Jabez Andrus who also Settled around this time including across the river at Pekin. By 1830 Crestwood had developed into an independent village and by 1840 it had 10 households and two schools. In 1852-53 there were 5 new households added to Crestwood after Clinton county was organized into McLean County. By 1860 Crestwood’s population hadgrown to 25 families with three schools and 4 businesses including one inn which became known as “The Grouse” because so many fishermen used its riverside spot for their catches during that time period! In 1870-71 residents voted to annex Pekin making it their new post office but by 1880 they had reverted back to their original name of Crestwood Village after merging with Quincy again! In 1910-11 crest wood's population stood at 1,839 people however by 2000 its population had decreased reaching 919 due largely to retirements and movers out of state following The Great Recession! However some recent growth has been seen in aspects such as arts and culture as well as agriculture thanks in large part to contributions from corporate donors like Google parent company Alphabet Incorporated!
