The company went into receivership during World War II but recovered quickly after the war ended; it regained its lost market share within five years. USC merged with RJR Nabisco Incorporated on July 29th 1984 to form JDS Uniphase plc.; this company continues today as Altria Group Incorporated (OTCPK: MOFA).
