The first post office located in CrestWOODwas established on December 3rd of that year with Wm Higginson as its initial clerk and it operated until1878 when it moved to Decatur Heights . From 1834-1838 there were only two gun stores operating within town limits; one at 5th St and S 2nd Ave and another at 7th St and S 1st Ave . In 1840-1841 George Stephenson built a sawmill and shipped logs from Illinois to Knoxville for binding into lumber which he then exported to England . He organized a lumber company called Stephenson & Co which began exporting logs from Illinois from 1840-1841 The business became known as Stephenson’s Lumber Company In 1861 Abraham Lincoln served as Sheriff of Cook County He ordered all law enforcement officers to carry revolvers with them while on duty because he believed that handguns were not effective weapons against criminals Therefore, all law enforcement officers who carried handguns resigned their positions instead of being forced to carry guns they did not own
Crestwood is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,837 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first settlers in Crestwood were two families from Lexington, Kentucky who arrived in 1836 as refugees from the American Civil War. They founded a small community on a tract of land they had bought from an Indian chief and his followers. In 1847, they erected the first frame house in Crestwood when they numbered only nine people. In 1860, Methodist Episcopal Pioneers established a church and school within the town limits; it remains one of Crestwood's main attractions today. In 1862, the Union army destroyed some farming settlements near Crestwood while attacking Harper's Ferry during the Virginia Rebellion; this event has been called "the battle that began America." As a result of this destruction, many farmers deserted their homes and began to settle in Crestwood again – one of whom was George Meeker Sr., who built what is now Meeker’s Drug Store on State Street in 1865. A post office was established at Crestwood in 1868, and remained open until it was discontinued by mail service in 1964. Crestwood Township was organized on November 3, 1889; it became municipal government with its own police department in 1912. A fire destroyed most of downtown Crestwood on December 1st 1914 creating shortages for food and other necessities leading to another famine which killed over 200 individuals that winter alone out of a total population of around 2200 residents at that time On October 5th 1919 local citizens met to decide how best to handle Chestnut Hill Farmstead which had been abandoned by its previous occupants because sheriff's deputies used excessive force when arresting protesters there

In recent years, Crestwood has seen some growth as a bedroom community for nearby Chicago neighborhoods such as Lawndale and EngleWOODS. However, its strong agricultural history remains one of its biggest strengths; many local farms continue to provide milk products and other staples to the village's nearly 1,000 residents.
