Crestwood, Illinois is home to the oldest continuously inhabited community in the United States. The town was founded in 1827 by a group of settlers who were looking for land to farm. Crestwood grew quickly and by 1830, it had a population of over 50 people. By 1831, Crestwood had become a small village and by 1835, it had reached its current size. The first ammunition production in Crestwood took place in 1839. At that time, the town was only known for producing saltpeter and gunpowder. However, over time, ammunition production became an important part of the local economy. In 1861, the first rifle company was formed in Crestwood and soon after began producing ammunition for both Union and Confederate forces. In 1865, when Abraham Lincoln was elected president, he decided to make military munitions more important than ever before. This led to the construction of several new factories in Illinois specifically for this purpose. One such factory was located at Crestwood and it produced munitions until 1971. Ammunition production continued to be an important part of the local economy until around 2006 when it all stopped due to economic reasons. However, some old weapons still remain standing today as evidence of how valuable ammo can be!

Crestwood is part of the Springfield metropolitan area and is home to many large businesses and government buildings as well as a number of small businesses. The town was first settled in 1853 by John Sperling and his family. He named his new community after his father-in-law, James Cranch. In 1857, Crestwood had a store, post office and school. A sawmill started operations in 1860 and soon became the most important employer in the town. By 1870, Crestwood had two churches with a total population of 400 people. The mill closed in 1875 but continued to be used for storage until it burned down in 1916. In 1915, Crestwood also achieved national headlines when its citizens successfully campaigned to have their own county Courthouse built on State Route 551 near Mount Carmel Cemetery (now known as Mount Carmel Mall). The courthouse opened on November 1st of that year and served as the main center for business activity for much of Crestwood's early years. It remains an important landmark today. After World War II ended, growth slowed throughout McLean County due to low commodity prices and high taxes whichlimited development along certain corridors such as Interstate 65 or Route 12A which provided jobs outside of town limits This led to increased tensions between local residents over issues such as noise levels from large businesses or zoning changes that would allow larger homes within the limits of their communities without giving away valuable land .residents also voiced concerns about crime rates increasing inside their towns while larger suburbanites were enjoying amenities like easy access to cars or good schools just minutes away

Crestwood is a small, rural community in Cook County, Illinois. It was founded by the merger of two small villages, Crestwood and Haggerty. The population of Crestwood was 1,452 as of the 2000 census. The village site was chosen for its location on the crest of a hill that overlooked both Haggerty and Crestwood. The name "Haggerty" comes from an early settler, John Haggerty, who named his farm after his father-in-law's home in Virginia. In 1856, when the first post office opened in Crestwood, it served only Haggerty. In 1857, when the first train passed through town on its way to Chicago, delivery men brought mail to residents at their homes. After that time most mail went through Chicago. It wasn't until 1861 that a railway arrived in Crestwood - the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad. At first local farmers transported goods by wagon toChicago; but with railroad access everything changed beginning in 1867 when trains started running between Crestwood and McHenry Junction traffic increased tenfold! Today there are three daily buses service between Crestwood and McHenry Junction carrying over 100 passengers each way - making it easy for residents to get around town without having to drive or take public transportation! In 1916MCI took over management of all tracks within Cook County so that Brenton could continue developing even if rail traffic stopped coming through town (which it did). By 1922 Brenton had built a large new station at which all trains now enter/exit - making him one of the largest employers in town with more than 350 employees!
