Crest Hill is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The population was 27,539 at the 2000 census. Crest Hill was founded in 1892 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

Crest Hill is a small town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,600 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Peoria Metropolitan Statistical Area. Crest Hill is located about thirteen miles (21 km) north-northwest of Peoria and about twenty-six miles (39 km) east of Chicago. The first white settlers in Crest Hill were James Fenton and his family who arrived in 1836 from Kentucky. From 1840 to 1860, there were six other families living in Crest Hill: the Easley's, the Grimes'', the Howells', the Warners', and the Smiths'. In 1868, John Quesnel bought land which he named "Fenton Prairie". He built a cabin on this property which served as his home until his death in 1915. His son John Quesnel Jr., also a farmer, moved to Crest Hill and homesteaded what is now known as "Quesnel Place". In 1928, Harry Wiggin purchased "Wiggin Farms" which included parts of what are now CrestHill Village and Manor. He continues to farm here today. In 1895, Jethro Gibbs bought some of Wiggin's land and erected the first permanent structure in Crest Hill – a two-story log cabin with an outhouse – that he called "Gibbs House." Jethro Gibbs was one of four brothers who founded Hawksmoor Independent School District #1 southcentral Illinois on November 1, 1895; it became part of Classen Unified School District on August 14th 1922. The original name for Hawksmoor was simply "Hawksmoor". Today there are more than 400 students enrolled at Hawksmoor ISD including grades pre-K through 12th grade; many students also attend nearby schools such as Central High School or Peoria High School just blocks away from Hawksmoor Elementary/Secondary school campus via bus service! The first post office located in Crest Hill was established on December 4th 1888 by Lillie Calkins Gibbons with mail delivered to her home every day until it closed February 3rd 1889 due to lack of customers! On January 5th 1902 Mrs. Lillie Gibbons donated her personal effects (including some very fine lace items) to be used as postal headquarters for all residents within our district! This beautiful building still stands today inside Hawksmoor Elementary/Secondary school campus! On July 6th 1908 Phebe Sprague announced she would be running for sheriff against incumbent Rufus Hemsley because she felt Hemsley had been too quick to give up control over our small town after becoming Sheriff Of Mclean County! After much campaigning Sprague won by a wide margin allowing us all hope that things might not have gone too bad after all….. however on October 10TH 1908 another local woman named Maybelle Anderson announced she would be running against Hemsley for Sheriff again!!! MAYBE SOMEONE CARE TO STATE THE EVIDENCE AGAINST MAYBELLE AND HER CAMPAIGN? She got less than half the votes cast!! What could have happened if we had just let her run??? We may never know!!!

Additionally, LEDs tend not to produce heat like regular bulbs which makes them ideal for use with firearms!
