Crest Hill is located in the northwest corner of Cook County and is bordered by the communities of Dogpatch, Arlington Heights, and Winnetka to the south and east; Burr Ridge to the north and west; and Aurora to the northwest. The community has been inhabited for over two centuries. It was organized as a village in 1854. In 1892 it became a city. As of the 2010 census there were 7,711 people living in Crest Hill municipality including 447 households that lived on or near campus of Pembroke Township High School which serves students from PreK-8th grade along with residents from Dogpatch Elementary School which also served pre-kindergarten through 8th grade before closing down due to lack of funding from local landowners who did not want their property used as an educational resource for students rather than being developed into commercial parcels like other municipalities in Cook County have done such as Deerfield IL) while 567 households lived elsewhere within Illinois without any connection whatsoever with Pembroke Township High School or Dogpatch Elementary School making this one large contiguous zip code

Crest Hill is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 7,554 at the 2010 census. Crest Hill is located in the northwest corner of Cook County and is bordered by South Elgin to the north, Carbondale to the east, West Dundee to the south and Lake Forest Park to the west. It lies on crest of a hill that runs from east-west along Cook County's southern border. The original crest of this hill was used as pasture for early settlers who arrived in this area during 1811-12 when Montgomery Scott surveyed what would become Crest Hill Township. By 1836, Crest Hill had a post office and two churches - one Congregational and one Baptist - as well as several stores and residences. The first school in Crest Hill was built on Capitol Street in 1841 by Mr. John Ackerly with funds heearned from his cattle business. In 1865, Mrs. Elizabeth Boardman organized a second school which became known as "The Ladies' School" because it taught girls until 1924 when it became an all-girls high school under the name "CrestHill High School". From its founding until 1951, Crest Hill was served by the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad which left tracks running parallel to present day State Road 169 between Carbondale and West Dundee; freight trains stopped at various locations along these tracks providing access for goods brought into or exported from Crest Hill including coal mined near Carbondale and other minerals discovered nearby such as granite quarries operated by Wabash Coal Company near Carbondale In 1951 local entrepreneur Milton Jankowski donated land adjacent to current State Road 169 (now known as North Side Highway) in order for Cresthill High School to be built on it; this new school opened in 1955 with grades 8 through 12 serving students from both Cook County schools which were merged into one district prior to its closure in 1992 Today there are four active high schools within minutes' walk of each otherserving over 10,000 students: Northwestern Illinois Technical College–Northside (opened 1970), Northern Illinois University–DeKalb (opened 1984), Chicago State University–Lake Forest Park (opened 1991), and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville ( openings 2002). Additionally ten private schools are located within minutes walk including three Catholic Schools: Immaculate Conception HS (1973), Mount Carmel HS (1979), Holy Name KS(1983) On October 1st 1861 Abraham Lincoln made an address before Congress about his plans for Union expansion across America starting with Missouri This speech helped start support for Union forces moving westward towards Springfield where they would meet up with General Ulysses S Grant at Camp Douglas outside of Springfield on November 3rd 1861 after days of fighting Defensive Battle at Peoria River Bridge There were also skirmishes taking place around central Illinois including another battle fought at Pecora Heights just north of modern day Carbondale on November 5th 1861 while Union forces were trying unsuccessfully to cross Kaskaskia River seeking reinforcements Easton Johnston had been ordered not only to hold Peoria but also bomb Springfield should Confederate troops try crossing upstream but Johnston instead decided upon retreating back upriver
