In 1910 the first high school in Crest Hill opened; it was called Indian Hills High School until 1953 when it became Crest Hills Academy (now Park Ridge Academy). In 1965 it merged with North Side High School to become North Side/Crest Hill Senior High School and then finally Park Ridge/Crest Hill Junior High School in 1993. It has been reported that President George Washington Carver attended high school here which may account for some of the namesakes of some products such as 'Carver's Carbolic Soap'.

In 1829, a group of white men from Kentucky came to Crest Hill and started to farm the land. The farmer named James Waddle developed the town on his property. Waddle had a store, school, and chapel built in 1830. By 1840, there were about 100 people living in Crest Hill. In 1851, President James Buchanan issued an executive order that made it illegal for any person to sell liquor within ten miles of the capital city of Washington D.C.. This order caused many people to leave Crest HIll and move to other places in Illinois. However, many people continued to live in Crest HIll because it was a traditional Indian burial ground for their loved ones.
In 1871, Crest Hill was part of the township of Carpentersville. In 1881, it became a village and in 1903, it became an incorporated town.
