Crest Hill, Illinois is a small town in the heart of the state of Illinois. It is located in southwestern Cook County, and has a population of just over 7,000 people. The Crest Hill area was first settled by farmers and their families in the late 1800s. By 1908, Crest Hill had become an important agricultural center due to its location on the Butterfield Railroad. In 1933, the Crest Hills School District was formed, and the first school opened in 1934. Over time, Crest Hill has become an important bedroom community for Chicagoans. Today's Crest Hill is located about seven miles northwest of downtown Chicago on I-88/I-294; it straddles both sides of this expressway with small businesses lining one side while homes line the other side between large subdivisions (the majority being single family residences). It takes its name from one of its most prominent features: The crest of a high mountain which can be seen from many parts around town. According to legend, two farmers stopped at Crest Hill one day en route home after picking apples off a nearby peak and noted how jaggedly perched atop the peak was what looked like a very high castle - hence the name "Crest Hill" !! According to 2000 census data available online,[1] 5,872 lives currently live within three zip codes: 60622 (northwest suburbs), 60712 (southwest suburbs), and 60703 (central city). These 3 zipcodes make up about 96%[2] out all residents living within these three zipcodes who identify as Cresthillians! In addition thereto many others identify themselves as either Chicagoans or those who have resided here for awhile but are not necessarily closely related to any particular crestheadian community geographically speaking! These various definitions notwithstanding though all Residents residing within these three zipcodes selfidentify as having descended from English settlers who arrived during America's early days!! This rich cultural heritage pervades throughout every aspect both physically and culturally including music appreciation groups playing traditional English Folk songs outside local bars & restaurants on Saturday night while families gather around open fires over open kitchen tables enjoying traditional dishes originating back before Prohibition began!!
