Crest Hill is a small town in Hancock County, Illinois, United States. The population was 993 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Crest Hill was named for General James A. Grant and his wife, Elizabeth (née Welles) Grant. The first site where guns were used in America was on the banks of the Fox River in what is now Wheaton, Illinois. cannon balls were shot from Fort Dearborn into the river during the War of 1812 to test whether they could be pulled up by dogs or if they would float away upstream. In 1826, Captain John Hunt opened a trading post on the site that became known as "Hunt's Ferry". The first gun factory in America was built here in 1836 by Amos Kendall and Isaiah Thomas under contract from General Winfield Scott with instructions to make revolvers for Mexico City. In 1861 during the American Civil War, Union forces burned down Hunt's Ferry after learning that Confederate forces had been using it for artillery practice near this location. For many years afterwards it remained unoccupied and largely unused until 1992 when it was purchased by Crest Hill Community Schools District #1 and extensively renovated as an elementary school gymnasium/multi-purpose hall/multi-purpose arena/sports complex which served as home court for Crest Hill High School varsity basketball and volleyball teams until 2011 when those teams moved to new facilities at Pioneer High School; however, wrestling remains an annual event at Hunt's Ferry annually throughout summer months due to its popularity there among students from Crest HillHS).

Crest Hill is a small town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. Crest Hill is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first settler in Crest Hill was David Baird in 1814. The town began to form when land buyers combined parcels of farm land into one large block and sold it to various families. In 1849, the community added a post office, and by 1860 had a population of just over 100 people. By 1870, growth had resumed as settlers arrived from other parts of Illinois and Indiana. In 1904, crest hill residents voted to incorporate as a town under the name "Crest Hill." The following year saw the opening of Crest Hill High School which became one of the largest high schools in Kane County. In 1916-17, Crest Hill Elementary School opened which helped keep pace with changes within Kane County as well as neighboring townships that changed their school systems during this time period such as Westchester Park and Maywood Township (now parts of Downers Grove). A fire destroyed most of downtown on Christmas Day 1921; however local business owners rebuilt quickly with donations from individuals and businesses within minutes or hours after the fire started. This demonstrates how resilient local businesses are during times of crisis – even during hard times! Between 1926-1929 Cresthill experienced some significant growth due to World War II Veterans returning home from overseas deployments through Interstate Highway 95 (I-95) when it opened up across central Illinois; this increased traffic and prosperity throughout both townships creating many opportunities for job creation along with new homes being constructed near I-95 exits providing easy access to jobs all around central IL while still preserving rural character much like what we see today on Main Street in our community! From 1970 until present day there has been steady growth with more current housing developments being built since then making Cresthill an ever growing place to call home!

The first store was opened in 1827 by George Hinton and his brother-in-law Amos Kendall. In 1887, John Fenton purchased land adjacent to present day Crest Hill from the Kendall family for $2,000. Fenton began developing this land into a large agricultural community with mills, schools, churches and other buildings being built over time including the current courthouse which was completed in 1912. In 1902, an addition to McHenry County was created and Crest Hill became part of it; as such it lost its village status but retains its name as one of four villages within McHenry County (the others being Westmont Village, Northfield Village and Southfield Village). Today Crest Hill continues to maintain its close-knit community spirit with residents frequently coming together for events such as Veteran's Day Parade or apple picking festivals along with hosting civic functions such as meeting the new sheriff or inaugurating new members to the school board. With so many years of history behind it, it's no wonder that Crest Hills has been known for producing good apples since before machines could pick them!
