In Crest Hill, Illinois, the history of guns and firearms is intertwined with that of the people who live there. The town was founded in 1871 by farmers who1 relocated from nearby Davenport. In 1892, two black men were shot on Main Street in Crest Hill after an argument about a sporting rifle. By 1890 there were over 5300 people living in CrestHill proper with more than 100 businesses operating within its walls. In 1916–1917 the Eastern Consolidated Coal Company developed a major mine here that produced coal for American munitions production during World War I; however, coal mining played no role whatsoever in later aspects of local economy or social life here. The post-World War II years saw some significant changes occur within Cresthill as well: following WWII there became an increase in automobile manufacturing jobs within Chicago’s downtown area; while most residents continued to work within their own families they also experienced increasing levels of affluence thanks to suburbanization and other economic changes emanating from outside sources such as Interstate 90 (now Loop 110) becoming increasingly accessible via expressways throughout much of southern Illinois starting around the mid 1960s (and even earlier through construction thereof). As these changes took place many residents either left or sold their homes back into market value thereby changing both physical layout as well as demographic makeup significantly altering how much land actually remained within town limits today – although vestiges remain visible such as intersections where Main Street once met up with Wabash Avenue – making it difficult if not impossible for outsiders evenhandedly attempting comprehensive studies about early 20th century demographics without first departing from Cresthill itself!
