Crest Hill is a small town in Cook County, Illinois. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. Crest Hill is located on the eastern edge of the Chicago metropolitan area and is bordered by Park Ridge to the north, Maywood to the east, Westmont to the south and La Grange to the west. The original site of Crest Hill was a settler's farm that was platted in 1836. The name "Crest Hill" was given because of its resemblance to a hill in Ireland. In 1881, CrestHill became part of what was then known as Township No. 6 of Cook County. In 1909, CrestHIll voted to secede from Township No. 6 and become an independent village under the jurisdiction of Village Board No. 1 which it did so by ordinance on July 1, 1909. On October 15, 1912 extensions were granted for both villages with a total population of 10,000 residents each; this represented an increase in population over that seen in either village during 1911-1912 (8999 residents). The first election held for Village Board members occurred on November 3rd 1912 with Alfredo Ruffini elected as President and John Fenton as Vice President; both men served until their successors were elected on November 3rd 1916 when Freda Brillick became President and Rudolph Bresnahan became Vice President; both men served until their successors were elected on January 1st 1919 when Charles Haggerty became chairman after incumbent Rudolph Bresnahan resigned due to ill health A new school building was built between 1915-1920 and named after Mrs Emma Kapp who donated her land for it A post office called Crest Hill opened on December 12th 1914 On February 17th 1921 Jonell Starkey became postmaster after incumbent Jonell Starkey died suddenly while serving as postmaster On March 2nd 1922 Extension Number 2was granted for Cresthill with a population of 11000 residents On October 21st 1923 Extension Number 3was granted for Cresthill with a population of 120000 residents The first annexation took place when Forest Lawn subdivision was annexed into Crest Hills village

Crest Hill is a small town in central Illinois, United States. The population was 2,898 at the 2010 census. Crest Hill is part of the Quad-Cities area. It is located on the south side of the Chicago River and about 20 miles (32 kilometers) west of downtown Chicago. The village of Crest Hill was organized in 1847 and named for its high crest above which were situated some two thousand acres (800 hectares) of woodland and rolling hills that stretched to the river's edge. In 1868, when Beltline Road was extended through Crest Hill, the name changed to Interstate 90 (I-90). 6 years later, I-290 was routed through Crest Hill as well, making it one of only a few places in Illinois where both highways run concurrently for entire length. In recent years, much development has occurred in and around Crest Hill; including several new subdivisions built along beltlines or nearby expressways such as I-294 and I-290. However, most residents remain content with their traditional lifestyle - walking or biking to their local store or restaurant - while also enjoying access to many cultural attractions within minutes' drive such as The Art Institute of Chicago and Millennium Park.
Crest Hill was founded in 1814 by Isaac Shelby. The town developed around a junction of two rivers, the North Branch of the Sangamon River and the South Branch of the White River. Crest Hill became a hamlet after 1798 when it was included in the Township of Rome. In 1830, when Rome was annexed to Chicago, Crest Hill became part of the new city. The population increased as waves of immigrants arrived in the 1840s and 1850s, and growth accelerated during the city's first half century as a result of industrial development and suburban growth. By 1871, Crest Hill had a population of over 9,000 people. However, during this decade social unrest caused large numbers of residents to migrate away from Crest Hill and into other communities in Illinois; by 1881 only 1% of its citizens remained within its borders. In 1898 Chicago annexeed Crest Hill again to form an incorporated village with a population under 1,000 people; however due to continuing problems with crime and poverty, this village failed within 2 years and disappeared altogether 8 years later.
