The name "Crest Hill" comes from the hill on which it stands and is derived from Old English "kræst", meaning "top". Crest Hill was first settled by Germans in 1847. The town was platted in 1871 and named for Colonel John Ewing cresting a hill beyond his home property. Crest Hill grew rapidly during World War II as many soldiers made their way to Illinois to fight. In 1948, Crest Hill became an incorporated village after being approved by the board of trustees of Kane County. After years of growth and development, Crest Hill's only store closed in 1998 when its owner decided to close down because he could not make enough money selling groceries online. In recent years, Cresthill has seen significant investment in new housing developments as well as businesses that service the community. A new high school opened in 2007 and an emergency room alsoopened that same year; both are located within walking distance of most homes in the community. A new park called Park Meadows opened near Interstate 94 just east of town on Sunday, May 2nd following months-long planning and construction by local organizations such as Park Meadows Rotary Club and Kiwanis Club members. This $14 million project features two large green fields with playgrounds for children ages 4 through 12and a fitness center with cardio equipment for adults; all told it will create nearly 100 jobs within its first phase alone!

The first European to live in Crest Hill was Captain George Rogers who founded Fort Worth on the Wabash River in 1794. In 1817, John Lennon and Yoko Ono lived at 715 Niles Ave., just east of where CrestHill now stands. In 1847, Elijah Boudinot became the first Native American to be elected as a U.S. Congressman from Illinois and he served from 1847-1853. At that time there were only two U.S.: one for Illinois residents and one for Native Americans. In 1830, John Ladds built what is now known as Ladd's Store on Sixty-Third Street between First and Second Avenues which would become one of CrestHill's most famous landmarks; it would remain open until 2007 when it closed due to financial difficulties caused by its location within walking distance of multiple high schools and other businesses that did not appreciate its noise level or lack of parking space In 1865, my ancestor Isaac Dunlap helped found The Lutheran Church in Crest Hills with others from his congregation that had left Disciples Church after some disagreements about theological doctrine Doris Day began her career as an actress here before moving on to Broadway fame The original crest hill post office opened on Valentine's Day 1870 (now defunct)
